Chapter 246: I Told You To Let Go
Wan Qing was stunned, not expecting Jiang Ruanxi to ask her this.
But thinking of this child, she touched her belly and smiled, “Two months.”
Seeing that Jiang Ruanxi ignored her, Concubine Sun tightened her hand at her side but said nothing, returning to her seat again.
Jiang Ruanxi slightly lowered her head, concealing the mockery in her eyes.
“This palace remembers that you seem to have just come to the Crown Prince’s Manor for two months. Wan Zhaoxun, this child really came fast.”
Panic flashed in Wan Qing’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
“This child was conceived on the day this concubine entered the manor.”
Seeing her lie without batting an eye or blushing, Jiang Ruanxi did not expose her.
“Wan Zhaoxun really has good fortune.”
Wan Qing thought Jiang Ruanxi knew something, her heart skipping a few beats, but seeing no abnormality in her, she felt she was overthinking.
Without her usual arrogance, she said, “Thank you, Empress, for the compliment.”
After speaking, she lowered her brows and acted obedient, without her usual arrogance.
Jiang Ruanxi said nothing to her, no longer wanting to deal with them, and waved her hand at them, “This palace is tired, you may withdraw.”
“Yes.”
They did not want to stay here either.
As they just turned around, Jiang Ruanxi felt her stomach churning and involuntarily dry heaved.
Concubine Sun and Wan Qing involuntarily stopped, looking at her with doubt on their faces.
The two exchanged glances.
Wan Qing seemed to think of something, her eyes darkening.
Jiang Ruanxi’s heart was already in her throat. Wan Qing was currently pregnant and knew that pregnancy causes vomiting; if she found out, it would be trouble.
“This palace doesn’t know why, but due to the abdominal injury recently, or perhaps catching a chill, there are occasional dry heaves. The imperial physician said it’s because the weather turned cold, and during the medicine change, she didn’t pay attention and caught a chill, leading to this.” Jiang Ruanxi explained nonchalantly.
Concubine Sun said, “Then the Crown Princess must take good care of herself.”
“Mm, you may go back. No need to come tomorrow; this palace needs to rest well.”
Jiang Ruanxi feared the same situation happening again and quickly told them not to come tomorrow.
Concubine Sun nodded.
After they left, Jiang Ruanxi breathed a sigh of relief.
After Concubine Sun and Wan Qing walked out of her bedchamber together, Wan Qing stopped and said casually, “Doesn’t Concubine Sun see anything different about the Crown Princess today?”
Concubine Sun stopped in a daze and said blankly, “No, is something wrong?”
Wan Qing, raised in an environment of scheming and intrigue, could naturally see the tension in Jiang Ruanxi’s speech just now.
“When the Crown Princess vomited earlier, didn’t you think of anything else?” Wan Qing asked with a slight frown.
“The Crown Princess said it was due to catching a chill.”
Wan Qing looked at her like she was an idiot.
“No wonder your Sun Family is like that, and you’re powerless to help, because you’re an idiot. You believe whatever she says. Under what circumstances do women vomit?”
Wan Qing did not want to say more to Concubine Sun, feeling it would insult her own intelligence.
Leaving these words, she walked away directly.
Concubine Sun was scolded, her face very unpleasant.
But accustomed to being a proper lady, she could not act like a shrew and curse back.
Her personal maidservant comforted her, “Don’t be angry, madam. You are a concubine; why lower yourself to the level of an uneducated concubine’s daughter.”
Concubine Sun was comforted by these words, finding them reasonable, and was no longer so angry.
After her anger subsided, thinking of the doubt Wan Qing raised earlier, Concubine Sun was not completely ignorant.
Recalling the last time she came to deliver medicine and saw her dry heaving, she had thought it was disgust toward her, but now it seemed, was it really as Wan Qing said?
Jiang Ruanxi was really pregnant.
But she was the Crown Princess; if pregnant, shouldn’t she be happy, announce it to the world, so she wouldn’t be neglected anymore?
She would return to her former glory.
Concubine Sun did not fully believe Wan Qing’s words and thought to find an opportunity to verify it.
She waved her personal maidservant over and whispered in her ear; the maidservant’s face changed drastically.
“Madam, is this okay? If discovered, it would be very unfavorable to you.”
“Our Sun Family is already like this; what more disadvantage is there? I can only help the Sun Family by climbing to a higher position.” Concubine Sun said fiercely.
The maidservant dared not say more and could only go silently to handle it.
**
“Crown Princess, this is the stomach-soothing barley my lady simmered for you. She heard you say your stomach was unwell earlier and specially instructed this servant to bring it to you.”
Jiang Ruanxi looked deeply at it and said indifferently, “Thank your lady for me; just leave it.”
“Yes.”
The maidservant handed the bowl to her, as if thinking of something, scooped a spoonful and offered it to Jiang Ruanxi’s mouth, “Crown Princess, your body is inconvenient; this servant will serve you to drink it?”
Jiang Ruanxi moved her head aside, “No need. Leave it; I’ll eat it when Yushui returns later.”
“Sister Yushui doesn’t know when she’ll be back; it’s better if this servant serves you.”
Jiang Ruanxi was very annoyed inside, and moreover, she didn’t know what was added to this barley; there was always a fishy stench.
Jiang Ruanxi felt like she was going to vomit.
“I told you to put it down.” Jiang Ruanxi said impatiently.
This maidservant didn’t know what was wrong today; she wouldn’t budge and kept trying to stuff it into her mouth. Jiang Ruanxi directly knocked it away with her hand.
Clang.
The bowl and the barley inside spilled all over the floor.
Jiang Ruanxi couldn’t hold back anymore and vomited directly.
“This servant deserves to die.” The maidservant who had just forced her to eat it knelt on the ground, looking as if she had done something wrong.
But that fishy stench made Jiang Ruanxi keep vomiting nonstop, so she just waved her hand, “Clean, clean all this up.”
After speaking, she covered her mouth and nose with a handkerchief.
She wanted to get angry, but in her current state, she only wanted fresh air.
Her abdominal injury prevented her from going out.
She could only endure and have her clean up these things.
Seeing the objective achieved, the maidservant quickly cleaned up and left.
After Jiang Ruanxi felt her stomach much better, Yushui came in frowning.
“Why is there a fishy stench here?”
After speaking, she involuntarily waved her hand in front of her face.
“Earlier, Concubine Sun’s maidservant came to deliver barley porridge; I don’t know what was put in it.” Jiang Ruanxi said indifferently.
Hearing it was Concubine Sun again, Yushui’s face turned very unpleasant.
“Like a weasel paying New Year’s respects to the chicken—definitely up to no good. Crown Princess, don’t eat their things; who knows what they put in them.” Yushui reminded.
“Don’t worry, I didn’t eat it. I knocked it over.”
Hearing this, Yushui breathed a sigh of relief.
But still a bit doubtful, “What is this Concubine Sun trying to do? Not long ago she sent you medicine, now barley porridge again; she’s not the type to be so kind.”
