Chapter 6: Job Change! Skill Acquisition!
The night breeze blew past the window sill.
Carrying a bit of refreshing coolness.
From next door came the playful chatter of Eldest Brother Jonathan on the phone with his girlfriend, as well as the flushing sounds from Second Brother frequently using the restroom in the corridor at night.
“These background noises are still reassuring.” Ian shook his aching forehead. This time, waking up from the Nightmare World didn’t produce much of an exclamation.
“Homelander, Homelander, red-eye disease, red-eye disease.” Although Ian had returned to the Real World, he was still thinking about the remains of that “Pirated Superman.”
Young people don’t care about pirated or not—as long as he could have red-glowing eyes, be invulnerable to knives and guns, and fly in the sky, even if it meant Ian had to move to a big villa, marry a hot babe, and live off an enormous soft life as an adult, he would be willing.
“Next time, I must prepare well, and shout louder for the ‘Family’ sound.” Ian secretly resolved to practice climbing trees properly.
To be fair.
Even now, he still couldn’t quite understand why Homelander would go to the Marvel Universe. That image was like a mismatched puzzle piece, full of dissonance, like an absurd farce.
But precisely because he saw such an absurd fact, it made Ian involuntarily think about a question.
“If Homelander can appear in the Marvel Universe, does that mean my psychiatrist is really that Hannibal…” Ian felt this question makes one shudder upon further thought.
He couldn’t think too much about it, or his anxiety would get worse. Ian rubbed his temples, trying to erase the somewhat chilling guess from his mind.
“System.”
He began to shift his attention, opening his Personal Panel interface. It was still that crude style, but now there was a brand new optional interface added.
“Finally! I’m going to stop being human too!”
A surge of inexplicable excitement rose in Ian’s heart. He eagerly opened the profession selection function, which currently had only one lone option—Berserker.
【Profession System Unlocked】
【Current Available Professions: 1】
【Berserker Description: Fueled by anger, wielding rage as a blade, tear apart all obstacles!】
The domineering introduction made Ian’s heart surge. After a slight hesitation, he decided to select the 【Berserker】 option for profession binding.
Well, Homelander’s side could still unlock another profession option, but who could resist immediately becoming transcendent? He knew very well that his system could grant him more than one profession.
This had already been verified in his past experiments with the system. Gaining a second profession just required some prerequisites, and Ian felt that wouldn’t be too much trouble.
“Berserker Ian is ready!”
With Ian’s confirmation, lines of text appeared in an instant.
【Job Change Condition: Raise Rage Value to critical point(Current Rage Value: 5/100)】
At the same time, a semi-transparent progress bar appeared in the bottom right of Ian’s vision, like a status bar in a game, marked with 【Rage Value】 indication. And a bit below the top of the bar was a prominent red calibration line—clearly, that was the “critical point” he needed to break through.
He needed to reach at least sixty Rage Value.
“Sure enough, I’m just playing Earth OL.” Ian couldn’t help but sigh. With a thought, the Rage Value display in the bottom right could be hidden.
Raising anger wasn’t actually that difficult.
Ian closed his eyes and tried to recall the car accident from his previous life that took his life.
The speeding apocalyptic red knight, the driver’s drowsy face, and the brakes that never sounded from beginning to end… all appeared vividly in his mind.
Wrath began to brew in his heart.
In a fit of anger.
Ian got angry.
【Current Rage Value: 13/100】
This was already Ian trying his best to stir his emotions. No way around it—time had diluted too much, and the anger had long worn away in the passage of time.
“Tch, too long ago, can’t get mad.” Ian touched his ears, which hadn’t even turned red, feeling somewhat helpless. Then, he decided to try a different approach—physical stimulation.
“Pa!”
Ian raised his hand and slapped himself.
Angry?
【Current Rage Value: 11/100】
It seemed like he didn’t get angry at all.
He even faintly felt a sense of refreshment.
“Damn!”
Ian didn’t dare continue slapping himself—he was afraid of awakening some strange attribute. After thinking, he directly left his room and entered the kitchen to rummage through cabinets.
Chili peppers?
Take a bite.
Wasabi?
Gulp two mouthfuls.
Ian felt the spiciness rush straight to the top of his head, tears and snot in zero-distance contact.
【Current Rage Value: 21/100】
“Not enough, far from enough…”
Ian panted, his gaze sweeping over the refrigerator. Suddenly, inspiration struck—his 2.3 world-shocking wisdom came into play. Well, actually, the Intelligence on the attribute panel didn’t represent true wisdom, just mental activity, learning ability, and logical thinking intensity. But that didn’t stop Ian from feeling he had world-shocking wisdom.
Ten minutes later.
In Ian’s blender rolled an indescribable viscous mass—chicken breast, chili peppers, wasabi, bitter melon, and a few handfuls of rotten vegetable leaves that had been there for days.
The beverage dubbed “shit of shits” was ready. Ian didn’t consume it immediately but returned to his room, turned on the computer, and opened a game called 【Dota Alliance】. Second Brother Jordan’s account password was etched in Ian’s memory; he quickly logged in and started playing.
As expected.
First game, teammate AFK.
Second game, ADC flash to feed.
Third game, jungler sleepwalking the whole time.
Fourth game, mid laner opens mic to flame.
Fifth game… total collapse, Ian’s record 0/31, perfectly blending with teammates, completely Red Temperature. While chugging his concocted beverage, he looked at his 【Rage Value】.
【Current Rage Value: 56/100】
Good, good!
Indeed reaching the level of losing rationality!
But still not enough!
To prevent his mood from calming and 【Rage Value】 dropping, Ian quickly opened his browser and searched for videos of vegans forcing others to eat vegan.
【Current Rage Value: 57/100】
Rage Value rose again.
But still not enough!
Continue watching videos—Animal Protection Association propaganda videos, and those protecting animals by smashing, looting, burning, forcing donations, even making people move.
“Hiss!”
This really gets one fired up.
【Current Rage Value: 59/100】
Ian’s face was already red with anger, but still short of that final bit.
And at that moment.
【What useless crap do you watch every day? Young people should look at erotic pics, look at boobs!】 A bullet screen flashed across the screen, and then Ian’s computer uncontrollably gained a folder.
This was the hacker who had been lurking in his computer for years causing trouble.
Click on the folder.
Sure enough.
【Little pervert still wants to see erotic pics? In your dreams!】
Inside was only one sentence.
【Current Rage Value: 64/100】
Ian was immediately furious, and this emotion triggered a new system prompt in his ear, while his body simultaneously underwent enhancement changes.
【Ding!】
【Job Change Successful!】
【Profession: Berserker Acquired!】
【Foundation Template Loaded!】
【Talent Skill Acquired—Reverse Blood Furnace】
【Berserker Profession Skill Tree Unlocked!】
