Chapter 16: Because Of This Gun In My Hand
When the gunfire faded, everyone’s gazes gathered on the dark pistol in Su Yaoyang’s hand.
“What gives me the right? Just this gun in my hand. Is that enough for you to see?”
Su Yaoyang stared at the group of women led by Yu Mo, his eyes filled with sharpness and impatience.
“What time is it now? The little devils could barge in at any moment, and they won’t be as reasonable as us.
You all should know the consequences of being captured by the devils; otherwise, you wouldn’t have escaped.
Right now, it’s just asking you to help move some things. What’s there to complain about?
Whoever doesn’t want to move them can leave now. I absolutely won’t force her!”
Seeing this young man, who originally looked like a refined and polite student, suddenly turn fierce, Yu Mo and her group were all frightened.
They looked at Su Yaoyang, then at the gun in his hand, suddenly realizing that this young man wasn’t joking with them—he was serious.
If they wanted to continue staying in this church, they probably really had to listen to him.
Yu Mo’s face flushed red and pale as she threw the mahjong tiles in her hand onto the table, snorting coldly: “Fine, we’ll go. It’s just moving some things. Could it be more tiring than serving those stinking men?
Sisters, let’s go with this guy and see what he wants us to move!”
Yu Mo undoubtedly held very high prestige among these women by the Qinhuai River. After she spoke, the other women chimed in: “Right… Sister Yu Mo is correct. I also want to see what this guy has for us to move.”
With that, they pushed away the mahjong table and walked out with swaying figures.
“Wait a moment…”
Su Yaoyang’s voice rang out again.
Yu Mo turned her head sarcastically: “What… does Young Master Su have any more orders?”
“Are you going to move things dressed like that?”
Su Yaoyang pointed at Yu Mo and the others’ clothes, then silently looked at the high heels on their feet.
“Hmph…”
Yu Mo’s pretty face reddened. She walked to her suitcase, without avoiding the crowd, pulled out a piece of clothing and put it on, then changed into a pair of flat shoes.
The other women followed suit, and over a dozen of them clacked away…
Ten or so minutes later, led by Su Yaoyang, Xu Dapeng, Meng Shujuan, Wang Xiaozhen, Xiao Lu, and the other women followed him to an abandoned courtyard.
“Creak…”
Su Yaoyang pushed open the courtyard gate, and a pile of boxes as high as a small mountain appeared before everyone.
“This… this is…”
Looking at the boxes piled up like a small mountain in front of them, Xiao Lu, Yu Mo, Meng Shujuan, and the other women showed little reaction, but Xu Dapeng and the other three soldiers were stunned.
Before Su Yaoyang could speak, Xu Dapeng rushed forward first, pulled out his bayonet, and pried open a box.
“Clack!”
As the box was opened, ten brand-new rifles neatly arranged on wooden racks appeared before everyone.
Xu Dapeng picked up a rifle, feeling its hefty weight, and frowned slightly. “This… seems like American stuff, right?”
“Yes!”
Su Yaoyang said calmly from behind: “M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle, 7.62 mm caliber, eight-round magazine, no need for manual ejection and loading, maximum rate of fire up to 40 to 50 rounds per minute—extremely ferocious firepower.”
“And this!”
Su Yaoyang opened another box, revealing a box full of iron pineapples.
“The American MK2 hand grenade. Though it only has 50 grams of TNT charge and its explosive power isn’t as strong as the M24 grenades you’re used to, there’s plenty to go around.
There are thirty boxes here, two hundred each—enough for you to use.
There are also M2 60mm mortars, M1917 Browning water-cooled machine guns, five anti-tank rifles, and 100,000 rounds of various ammunition. How about it… is that enough for you?”
“I…”
Xu Dapeng didn’t know what to say anymore; he was completely dumbfounded.
This was also the scene that Li Gaoyuan, who had rushed back to the church just before dawn, saw.
Li Gaoyuan went through the same feelings as Xu Dapeng. He pointed at the ammunition piled up like a small mountain.
“Brother Su… this is the ammunition you mentioned secretly stockpiling?”
“Yeah!”
After moving ammunition all night, even with Su Yaoyang’s remarkable stamina, he was truly exhausted. Panting, he nodded and pointed at the pile: “Old Li, is this weaponry and ammo enough?”
“More than enough—these are sufficient to arm a reinforced battalion.”
Surprise was written all over Li Gaoyuan’s face. He realized he had still underestimated this little brother he had known for less than a day.
Forcing down the excitement in his heart, he pulled over a tall, dark-skinned middle-aged officer with a full beard and said to Su Yaoyang: “Brother Su, let me introduce you. These two brothers are ones I happened to meet last night. Will you introduce yourselves, or should I do it for you?”
“No need to trouble Officer Li. I’ll do it myself.”
The middle-aged officer stepped forward, saluted Su Yaoyang, and said: “I’m Second Lieutenant Company Deputy Lu Shaobin of the 596th Regiment, 336th Regiment, 112th Division. I’ve already heard about Young Master Su from Officer Li.
In short, to put it in our Northeast dialect, you’re a real man!”
With that, Lu Shaobin gave Su Yaoyang a thumbs up, making Su Yaoyang quite embarrassed. He quickly waved it off.
“Company Deputy Lu is too polite. I just acted on youthful impulsiveness and hot-headedness without thinking too much.
But when it comes to being admirable, it’s you and Brother Li as soldiers. It’s precisely because of the millions of loyal and brave soldiers like you that our 450 million compatriots are spared the ravages of the Japanese invaders!”
“I… Young Master Su flatters me… Sigh…”
Hearing Su Yaoyang’s praise, Lu Shaobin let out a long sigh and smiled bitterly: “I’m ashamed. If we were really useful, the little devils wouldn’t have reached the capital.”
Perhaps not wanting to dwell on the past, Lu Shaobin rubbed his hands, a bit embarrassed: “By the way, Young Master Su, after our unit routed from Purple Mountain, many brothers died or scattered, and we lost a lot of weapons. Can you resupply us with some weaponry and ammo?”
“Of course!”
Su Yaoyang naturally agreed without hesitation. He had expended so much effort and exchanged for all these weapons not just to look at them.
He casually patted a box on the ground. “Company Deputy Lu, quickly get your brothers over here to rearm. Take as much as you can—not just weapons and ammo, I’ve also prepared plenty of uniforms.
Oh, by the way, I should warn you upfront: this batch of weapons is different from what everyone used before. It’s all American gear, so once you get them, you still need to familiarize yourselves. Don’t wait until combat starts to find out you don’t know how to use them—that would be disastrous.”
“Great! I’ll thank you on behalf of my brothers first!” Lu Shaobin was overjoyed and immediately called his men over to rearm.
