Chapter 1: After Catching Darkrai, I Have To Go To School With My Sister?
There is no moon tonight either.
“Thunderbolt!!”
Golden electric light fiercely surged around Pikachu, unusual pale electric light and golden thunder intertwined and danced wildly, piercing the ground, weaving an impenetrable electric net around Darkrai’s body!
“Pika~”
The electric mouse let out a seemingly dumb and cute cry, the electric net trapping Darkrai instantly tightened, thick dark purple thunderbolts fell from the black clouds above its head, Thunder + Thunderbolt! The three-colored thunder light rampaged within the electric net!
“Zzz~~~Zzz~~~”
Electric current swept through, Darkrai floating in mid-air swayed unsteadily.
The special environment of the moonless night where the Pokémon appeared seemed to bolster its stamina somewhat, Thunder + Thunderbolt was not enough to make it lose combat ability.
A dark void slowly gathered on Darkrai’s right hand, its remaining stamina was already stretched thin, but it did not want to give up so easily.
Radiance fiercely bloomed from the electric mouse’s tail, Iron Tail struck Darkrai’s right shoulder, followed by a Thunder Shock, Darkrai crashed into the flowerbed on the side of the street, electric energy surged on Pikachu, planning to hit it with another Thunderbolt.
“That’s enough, any more electricity and it’ll die!” The trainer behind Pikachu pulled a uniquely colored Poké Ball from his lower back.
Green body with square black patterns on it.
—Dusk Ball: At night, capture rate is three times the original.
He threw the Dusk Ball towards the flowerbed, the indicator in the middle beeped twice, and it was captured successfully without surprise.
The next morning, Zuo Hang’s home.
“Son, is the New Moon Feather any good?” A middle-aged man wearing a white apron asked.
“Don’t know, Darkrai went down in two moves, didn’t use the New Moon Feather.” Zuo Hang took bread from the plate and chewed two bites, the electric mouse stood on the other side of the table, quickly finishing the puff pastry breakfast on the plate.
“There are Dragonite sighting records in the Luoxia Mountains, I need to take a long trip, probably back in two weeks.” Pikachu nimbly leaped from the table to Zuo Hang’s shoulder, Zuo Hang passed the entryway, picked up the shoulder bag on the coat rack, preparing to head out.
“—Hey~ Son! Wait a bit! Don’t go to the Luoxia Mountains yet, your dad has something to trouble you with.”
Zuo Hang, who was changing shoes, froze for a moment.
Something?
The last time his old man had trouble was three years ago, when he was chased by two Dragon-type Elite Four, riding a Pidgeot across the Pacific, circling the Earth twice, probably on the third day of being chased, Zuo Hang received a call from his old man.
“Your dad has something to trouble you with.” Zuo Hang’s father had said exactly that back then.
Then the father and son teamed up to take down those two Dragon-type Elite Four.
Zuo Hang was 13 that year.
Taihang Mountains is a sparsely populated place, killing two Elite Four is a big deal in the League, the father and son only killed without burying, but who would have thought the two Elite Four would die there?
The bodies were discovered two months later, impossible to trace, Zuo Hang’s father, who had a grudge with the two Elite Four, is a househusband, peacefully running a B-rank Gym, with above-average income, no delinquent records, and Zuo Hang was only thirteen at the time, investigators could hardly suspect the father and son.
“Spit it out, what’s the matter?! Go to the Pokémon Day Care? Go to school?! Impossible, absolutely impossible to go to school, old man I took down an Elite Four at 13, what meaning is there in me going to school?”
Zuo Hang, an obscure Elite Four trainer.
When he transmigrated at six, he had never seen his mother, raised single-handedly by his reliable father who was once an Electric-type Elite Four, at seven he got his first “illegal Pokémon” electric mouse from his father, thus embarking on his own trainer’s journey.
As a transmigrator, Zuo Hang had rich knowledge reserves, plus his early travels had his Elite Four father as a nanny, Zuo Hang grew very fast. Though only 16 this year, as a trainer he had trained for nine years outside, roughly visited every place in the world. Nearly 300 Pokémon stored in the computer, including no shortage of mythical beasts and pseudo-legendaries.
The old man wearing a white apron coughed a few times, trying to make himself look serious, “Little Hang, 16 is the League-regulated age to get a Pokémon, even if your dad gave you special training nine years early, you still have to follow League laws, and you’re sixteen now, it’s time to get yourself a trainer identity. Our electric mouse can’t keep being an illegal one.”
“Moreover!” The old man’s tone shifted, “Your big sister has wasted four years due to social anxiety, the kid doesn’t want to go out, doesn’t get close to anyone except us, I figure having you take her along to school is better than her staying cooped up at home, right?”
The first half of the sentence could be ignored, the old man’s main purpose was still to have Zuo Hang take care of his “social anxiety” sister.
Born in the same family as Zuo Hang, the little brother is a teenage genius, but the sister is an autistic girl without even a Pokémon.
This matter traces back to Zuo Hang’s fault, the old man was always acting as his nanny, which led to the sister becoming a left-behind child at seven, alone at home developing a personality unaccustomed to talking to others, over time her personality grew more reclusive, eventually to the point of not daring to step out the door.
The old man’s expression wasn’t good, looking like he was blaming himself for poor upbringing, his face full of “failed parent”, “incompetent father”.
Though Zuo Hang is a transmigrator, having lived in this family since six, he long ago saw his old man and sister as family, moreover his sister becoming like this now was at least half his fault, thinking of that sister who stays holed up in her room being autistic every day.
“Alright.” Zuo Hang sighed helplessly, “Tomorrow I’ll take sister to the Pokémon Day Care, then go to school with her.”
Pushing open the door.
The girl with messy hair sat in front of the computer, the room very dark with curtains drawn, the electric mouse on Zuo Hang’s shoulder casually turned on the light, the room instantly brightened.
“—Ah~~~~~~~ I’m dying! I’m dying!! Don’t turn on the light!! Old dad!!! Huh?? Little brother?! Why are you here!”
Zuo Hang walked to the computer unfazed, pressed Esc on the keyboard, “Stop watching these weird sister-brother anime, get ready, tomorrow come with me to the Pokémon Day Care.”
The girl’s face changed instantly, her brown eyes similar to Zuo Hang’s lost their sparkle, she muttered softly: “Not going. I don’t like Pokémon.”
Zuo Hang looked at the “Water-type Pokémon family portrait” wallpaper on the computer screen.
‘Don’t like Pokémon’
What a self-defeating lie.
“Stop being stubborn, sister.” Zuo Hang picked up Pikachu from his shoulder and placed it in the girl’s arms, the lusterless brown eyes instantly regained their highlight.
“Pika?” Pikachu called out in confusion, looking back at Zuo Hang, Zuo Hang gave it a look, and Pikachu immediately understood.
Leaning forward, its soft body pressed close to the girl, an unprecedented strange warmth swept over Zuo Rou, as if it could make one drop all defenses.
Pikachu used Friendship.
Zuo Hang pulled the curtains halfway open, morning sunlight slipped through the gaps, shining on the girl, as if feeling the warmth of sunlight for the first time in her life, Zuo Rou looked up towards the outside of the window, Pidgey on the utility pole chirped noisily, as if sensing Zuo Rou’s gaze, one Pidgey landed on the windowsill, tilting its head at her, perhaps thinking the girl’s messy hair looked like its nest, a hint of confusion flashed on Pidgey’s face.
Zuo Hang crouched down, stroked his sister’s hair, “Tomorrow wear some clean clothes, come with me to the Pokémon Day Care, then go to school, no need to fear anything, with me here, no one can bully you.”
Zuo Rou bit her lip, wanting to refuse, but feeling the warmth from Zuo Hang and Pikachu, she gave up the idea of refusing.
“Mm.” Zuo Rou answered in a voice only the two could hear.
