Chapter 4: I Figured You’d Get Bored, So I Picked An Awesome School For You
After going out once, Zuo Rou seemed less resistant to the outside world. Gardevoir had been accompanying Zuo Rou, and there was a faint trend of them becoming good besties.
The normal hatching time for a Pokémon Egg is three days. Zuo Rou guarded the Pokémon Egg every day, looking forward to the little one coming out soon, while Zuo Hang practiced against Darkrai every day at his old man’s Gym training ground.
You can’t spoil Dark Type Pokémon. After fighting a few more battles, the intimacy goes up. The Pokémon Egg bought from the Pokémon Day Care was completely thrown to the back of Zuo Hang’s mind; he didn’t even care what Pokémon was inside the egg.
August 29, 2025.
About 6 hours until the Pokémon Egg hatches.
Zuo Hang completed a day’s training at the Gym and even took time to help his old man fight a few Gym battles. Just as Zuo Hang was about to go home, a certain middle-aged man who got off work early called him over.
“Son~ Take the admission letter.” His old man stuffed a somewhat thick cardboard into Zuo Hang’s hand.
“Admission letter?”
Zuo Hang was stunned.
He suddenly remembered that he hadn’t even finished junior high school.
He dropped out before finishing first year junior high to go traveling, didn’t take the high school entrance exam at all, and even his graduation certificate was obtained through connections. How could there possibly be an admission letter?
Nine years of compulsory education—high school admission letters don’t fall from the sky. No need to think about it; it must be his old man pulling strings again.
Zuo Hang opened the cardboard cover of the admission letter.
“Dear classmate Zuo Hang:
We admit you to our elementary Elf Academy for study. Please come to our school to register with this letter.”
A few concise words.
The letterhead read 【White Dragon Middle School】 in four large artistic characters.
“Are you sure you want me to go to White Dragon High School? I don’t have a problem with that, but Zuo Rou—”
His old man patted Zuo Hang’s shoulder and said, “I’m afraid you’ll get too bored at other schools, so I found you an interesting place. Didn’t you want to go to the Luoxia Mountains to catch a Dragonite? I heard that the trial one month after first year high school starts is in the Luoxia Mountains. As for little Rou, there’s no point in her going to those rundown high schools in Feiao City. If she’s going, she should go to the best one. Zuo Hang! When you get to an unfamiliar place, take good care of your sister!”
“.”
Zuo Hang fell silent.
White Dragon Middle School, also known as National 3 Middle School.
The largest Elf Academy in all of Asia doesn’t just have a university department; from elementary to university departments, it has all kinds of hardware and facilities, covering 13,660 acres with a total building area of 1.44 million square meters. The school has two secret realms internally, strong faculty, and many teachers are active or retired advanced Gym Leaders.
White Dragon Academy is located on an island, and that island doesn’t just have the school.
Shops, entertainment district, residential areas, advanced leisure venues—everything is there. It can basically be understood as a modern academy city.
Not just in China—multiple countries around the world have their own Elf Academies in the academy city. White Dragon Academy is more precisely a multi-country joint venture, though China holds the largest share.
To be precise, there are a total of nine large and small academies in the academy city, many of which are multi-country joint ventures. There are five secret realms in total, with three natural secret realms and two artificial secret realms.
Zuo Hang suddenly felt a bit worried.
The academy city is a place where geniuses gather. His own sister with social anxiety…
The next morning.
Zuo Rou opened her eyes.
The Pokémon Egg in her arms had a hole in it. A chubby blue Pokémon was sitting on the bedhead nibbling on the eggshell, its deep blue eyes meeting Zuo Rou’s just right.
“Pola?”
Turtwig chirped once.
The shy Zuo Rou didn’t avoid eye contact with the unfamiliar creature for the first time. She sat up on the bed, held the newly hatched little one in front of her, and examined it closely. Turtwig tilted its head, thinking its master was a bit silly. Its yellow beak slightly opened, and it blew a bubble toward Zuo Rou.
Turtwig used Bubble.
The transparent bubble slowly floated in front of Zuo Rou and “pop~” burst a few centimeters from her nose tip.
“Pola~ Pola~~”
She couldn’t understand it, but it was probably something like a “greeting.”
Zuo Rou hugged Turtwig and rubbed it, got out of bed, opened the wardrobe, placed Turtwig on her head, and pointed with one finger at the mirror inside the wardrobe.
“I! Zuo Rou! Starting today! Will become the world’s number one Pokémon Master together with Zuo Hang!”
“Pola!”
On the other side.
Zuo Hang turned off his phone alarm and rubbed his eyes in a daze.
A Fletchling was standing on the window frame.
Nothing surprising— just a house bird. He hoped this new one wouldn’t go provoke the Pidgey on the telephone poles. None of the Pidgey at his doorstep were good birds.
The Pokémon Egg on the table had hatched, with half the eggshell eaten.
Nothing surprising either—just the egg hatching.
Zuo Hang looked around.
Besides the still-sleeping Electric Mouse, there were no other Pokémon in the room.
He remembered his egg was supposed to be Fire-type. He hoped the little thing wouldn’t run around; in this hot weather, it would be bad if it accidentally set something on fire.
“Electric Mouse, wake up! My egg has hatched.”
“Pika?!”
The sleeping Electric Mouse jolted awake. Compared to Zuo Hang, it was more expectant about this new family member.
“Pika!!” The Electric Mouse tugged at Zuo Hang’s trouser leg and pointed at the Fletchling on the window frame.
Zuo Hang looked in the direction Pikachu was pointing. “Darn, no, my egg is Fire-type… Hmm? I didn’t open the window. How did this little guy get in?”
Zuo Hang suddenly realized something.
“No way, sir wouldn’t really have someone hatch a house bird from an egg, right…”
Fletchling, a Normal and Flying Type Pokémon—its evolution Talonflame is Fire and Flying.
Zuo Hang suddenly remembered he hadn’t paid attention to what type the Pokémon Egg was; the Fire-type claim was just his old man’s one-sided word.
If Zuo Hang had even glanced at the hatching manual, he wouldn’t have been so surprised by the situation, since the first page of the hatching manual clearly wrote 【Fletchling Pokémon Egg Hatching Manual】 in big letters.
“Zuo Hang! Zuo Hang! My Turtwig hatched! What’s in your egg?”
The socially anxious sister burst into Zuo Hang’s room.
“——Ah~~~~~~~ Wear your clothes properly at home too!!” Zuo Rou hurriedly covered her eyes.
Zuo Hang threw a Poké Ball at the window frame. A red light flashed, and Fletchling was sucked into the ball. “You’re peeking through your fingers, right?! Perverted big sis! Stop pretending to be pure; I know exactly what anime you watch.”
“Eh??? Could it be??!” A strange blush appeared on Zuo Rou’s face. “You’ve seen everything on my computer?”
Zuo Hang shrugged. “Haven’t seen it, but our house has bad soundproofing. I often hear Sakura Ayane and Hanazawa Kana’s voices at night.”
Zuo Rou breathed a sigh of relief. “Good, good, as long as it’s just those two.”
Zuo Hang: “???”
Gotta find a way to scam some tickets! Female
