Chapter 88: Taking On The Big With The Small, Lone Wanderer Of The Secret Realm!
It was dawn.
A handsome guy from Yingzhou had developed heavy dark circles under his eyes.
His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked dazed.
It wasn’t insomnia; it was probably from staring at the terminal for too long.
“Hangzi Ge! I’ve memorized it all!! I’ve memorized everything!!!!!”
Xingye’s expression was clearly very excited.
“I’ve memorized every star on the star chart that has a description and its corresponding stars! Now, as soon as I see ruins from the old world, I can immediately name the corresponding star, the world’s description! And what Pokémon might appear nearby.”
Zuo Hang, upon hearing this, showed a satisfied expression and patted Xingye’s shoulder. “Mm, well done. But actually, I was tricking you last night. I’ve memorized one-third of that star chart, so you really only needed to memorize the rest.”
Lin Ping patted Xingye’s other shoulder. “Though what I have to say might not be good news for you, I still have to say it: actually, I’ve also memorized one-third.”
Xingye was stunned on the spot.
“You guys aren’t… You guys said last night you were going to sleep right after! I didn’t see you memorizing anything!!”
Lin Ping sighed in imitation of Zuo Hang.
“No choice, my parents are both investigators. My genes are good; I memorize things quickly. I can’t do photographic memory, but even if I had to memorize that entire star chart, I could do it in ten minutes.”
Lin Ping sighed, so Zuo Hang could only shrug.
“I’m a bit worse than him; it would take me twenty minutes to memorize it all. I glanced at it last night. There are fewer than a hundred stars with descriptions, and including the descriptions, it’s at most around two thousand characters. No one takes a whole night and still can’t memorize two thousand characters, right??”
Xingye took a step back.
“Here it comes, here it comes. No one’s going to be sarcastic to me first thing in the morning, right?”
Lin Ping interjected: “No way, Xingye. No one thinks you were just being sarcastic, right?”
Xingye said: “You guys, enough. Stop it; that’s plenty!!”
“—Beep! Beep! Beep!”
Suddenly.
The silenced terminal sounded a piercing alarm.
“What’s going on?” Xingye asked.
“No idea. Seems like some very dangerous Pokémon is approaching.”
“You guys get ready to run. If a really dangerous Pokémon shows up, you two won’t be able to beat it,” Zuo Hang said.
Lin Ping and Xingye thought Zuo Hang made a good point.
Yeah, they couldn’t beat it either; staying would just be a burden.
Xingye and Lin Ping turned around at the same time, planning to run off with Zuo Rou’s Heichuan.
“No worries, you don’t need to panic. There’s no danger at all.” An unfamiliar voice suddenly rang out from everyone’s pockets.
This was the system voice of the White Dragon Terminal.
“The current principal has decreed that all terminals in the secret realm must sound an alarm every morning at six o’clock. This is to remind first-year high school trainers not to slack off at any time, and to stay vigilant at all times in the secret realm. Even if not in an ecological dense area, dangers can find you at any moment.”
Everyone felt a nameless fire rising in their bellies.
Making it sound so tense and noble, but wasn’t it just a damn alarm clock?!
“Fuck your mother! You stupid terminal! Always messing around with useless crap every day!”
The terminal gave an angry vibration.
“—Buzz~”
“Don’t yell at me! I told you yelling at me is useless. If you want to yell, go yell at the principal…”
Before the words were finished.
Zuo Hang suddenly saw a blue dog plummeting rapidly from the sky, its body glowing with what looked like a powerful acceleration skill.
Sparks and lightning all the way!
“Focus Blast!”
Wang Wenchuan’s roar startled the Pidgey resting in the woods.
Riolu kicked toward Zuo Hang’s temple. Xingye and Lin Ping’s mouths fell slightly open. The Electric Mouse watched from the side, showing no intention of taking action.
A red light flashed from the Poké Ball at Zuo Hang’s lower back.
Ninjask raised its dual blades.
“Hold back!”
Zuo Hang spoke up just as Cross Chop was about to strike.
Ninjask, upon hearing this, raised its arms and didn’t strike again.
This Riolu was a bit weak; it felt like a casual swing of the blade could lop its head off.
Sometimes showing mercy is much harder than going all out.
Ninjask held back, but Riolu wasn’t appreciative.
The Focus Blast bounced off Ninjask’s arms. Riolu flipped backward in midair, skill light glowing on its right leg.
—High Jump Kick!
“—Pa!”
The high Spring Leg kick hit Doublade’s shield, making a dull thud.
The twin swords unsheathed.
—Sacred Sword!
Zuo Hang had said to hold back, so Doublade used the backs of its blades.
First strike to the forehead, second to the chest.
Butt back, flat sand falling wild goose style landing.
Riolu was smacked from midair into the ground.
The battle came suddenly and ended suddenly.
Because of the alarm, no one noticed the terminal’s other notifications.
They’d already muted the terminal’s notifications yesterday, thinking no one would risk challenging them, but unexpectedly, there was such an exception.
“Commendable courage, but too weak.”
Zuo Hang said: “You timed it for the alarm. Looks like you knew the terminal would alarm at six in the morning. F Class’s intel isn’t any less than A Class’s.”
Why did Riolu go straight for Zuo Hang.
The reason was simple.
For the school emblem!
Shatter the opponent’s school emblem, and you get all their points, plus send them straight out of the secret realm.
Zuo Hang was undoubtedly A Class’s prime target, and with his strength, he surely had the most points.
Shatter Zuo Hang’s emblem, and Wang Wenchuan would leap to the top of the secret realm exploration points. Without Zuo Hang, A Class’s points would drop, and with Wang Wenchuan taking Zuo Hang’s points, F Class would replace A Class as the highest-scoring class.
Good idea, but very difficult.
Wang Wenchuan emerged from a hidden patch of grass, Poké Ball in hand.
Recall light shot out. Doublade flew low, blocking in front of Riolu and using its shield to block the recall light.
“You come and think you can just leave? What do you take us for?” Xingye said.
Wang Wenchuan had no teammates with him.
He’d come alone.
Zuo Hang remembered F Class was the most united in White Dragon 6 Class. There was no reason such a big “assassination” would involve only Wang Wenchuan.
“No need to look; I came alone,” Wang Wenchuan said.
“F Class are all lone wolves; no grouping up.”
Advancing in small teams is the safest way. Solo action risks being ganged up on by other classes’ teams and is tough against strong wild Pokémon.
It’s not that solo isn’t viable.
For someone like Zuo Hang, teaming up is actually a restriction.
As long as personal strength is strong enough, solo is totally fine.
Wang Wenchuan seemed to be F Class’s lone wolf.
