Chapter 84: Blow It Up First And Talk Later!
Looking at his expression, Zhang Qiling frowned: “Hurry, there’s not much time.”
Why isn’t there much time?
Lin Yan tentatively looked at Wu Xie. Wu Xie glanced at the watch on his hand: “There’s still almost an hour until low tide, we still have time?” He turned to look at Zhang Qiling: “Did you feel something? Is the oxygen running out?”
Zhang Qiling shook his head and turned the side behind the desiccated corpse to face them: “Look.”
Look at what?
The three of them crowded around the desiccated corpse. Its back was wrinkled and all black, and it was really impossible to make out anything in the dim light. Seeing that they seemed to have found nothing, Zhang Qiling grabbed Lin Yan’s hand and guided it towards the desiccated corpse’s tailbone.
“Holy crap! What is this thing!” Lin Yan, upon touching the strange texture again, instinctively wanted to pull away, but Zhang Qiling held him tightly, and he couldn’t break free for a moment.
The next second, he felt a texture different from the desiccated corpse’s surface skin. It was cold, hard, like a rod: “What is this thing? The tailbone?” He racked his brain trying to think of what could be in this position, and besides bone, there was nothing else. It couldn’t possibly be a tail, could it?
The next second Zhang Qiling shook his head: “It’s not bone. I originally thought this corpse had dried out and couldn’t undergo corpse transformation, but it seems I was a bit hasty.”
It’s going to transform? No wonder he said there wasn’t much time! The three of them instantly retreated a few steps, leaving Zhang Qiling in place holding the desiccated corpse.
If they didn’t use the treasure ceiling as an explosive before the corpse transformed, this corpse might just blow itself up after transforming, and they wouldn’t be able to get out!
Thinking of this, Lin Yan suddenly felt full of energy: “You carry it up, I’ll tie it!”
Zhang Qiling hesitated for a moment, then nodded. He could also tell that Lin Yan truly didn’t want to touch the desiccated corpse. But this was good; if the desiccated corpse transformed, he could still suppress it in time. If it were Lin Yan instead… if his blood were obtained by the desiccated corpse, anything might happen.
Lin Yan watched Zhang Qiling silently tie the desiccated corpse onto his back, and goosebumps rose all over him. He couldn’t compare, he couldn’t compare; this guy was too ruthless!
After everything was prepared, Zhang Qiling climbed upwards, with Lin Yan following a step behind, ready to help if anything was wrong up there. From his perspective, looking up as he climbed, he saw that near the desiccated corpse’s tailbone, where he had just felt the strange thing, a section was slightly protruding. It was as dark as the desiccated corpse itself and stuck upwards like a cow’s tail.
He became somewhat flustered, and his movements instinctively stopped: “Zhang, Zhang Qiling, that desiccated corpse, it, it grew a… tail?”
Zhang Qiling paused, glanced down slightly, and quickened his pace upwards: “Hurry.”
Lin Yan swallowed and nodded, following behind Zhang Qiling upwards. His attention was constantly on the desiccated corpse, fearing it might suddenly leap out at any moment… if that happened, their plan to get out of here would be completely ruined, and they would only be able to consider going back and confronting the Forbidden Woman head-on.
Fortunately, their luck was good. The desiccated corpse didn’t move until Zhang Qiling unloaded it from his back. Forcibly suppressing the goosebumps, he tied it up. Lin Yan didn’t want to stay another moment and climbed down without looking back. He only breathed a sigh of relief when he returned to Wu Xie and the others.
“Holy crap, you scared me to death! I thought that desiccated corpse was going to transform!”
“What’s wrong?” Wu Xie frowned and quickly asked what had happened.
Lin Yan wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, feeling sticky all over, his clothes feeling uncomfortably tight: “You have no idea, as I was climbing, I saw that desiccated corpse slowly grow a tail. It terrified me, and I thought it was about to jump up and kill us all!”
“A tail?” Wu Xie pondered. Even in his grandfather’s notebook, there was no mention of such a bizarre thing. A desiccated corpse with a tail… what was it?
Fatty heard this and clasped his hands together, looking at the desiccated corpse and muttering: “Esteemed elder, please be magnanimous. You are already gone, and this husk is all that remains. It would be best if it could help us get out. We know using you as an explosive pack is a bit excessive, but you see, there’s no other dynamite here. This is a matter of necessity and circumstance, there’s no other way! Please don’t hold it against us. Consider it a sauna session, a moment of peace with no worldly worries, free from all prohibitions!” After saying this, he even performed a respectful bow.
Lin Yan wanted to laugh: “I say, Fatty, can this desiccated corpse hear you?”
Fatty clasped his hands together and mourned for three seconds. He turned his head and gave him a look: “Go away, go away. What do you know? These formalities have to be said. Otherwise, what if they really come back to life and bring bad luck to us?”
Lin Yan looked at the mummified corpse that Zhang Qiling had tied into a knot and mourned for it inwardly for three seconds: “They’re already miserable enough. If you say that, it’ll be a ghost if they don’t come to trouble you! Besides, look, it’s all tied up like this. Even if it jumps out—”
Before he could finish speaking, as soon as Zhang Qiling’s feet landed, the mummified corpse twitched.
“. Holy crap?” Lin Yan felt a curse stuck in his throat. Did it have to be so cooperative? Move when told? Why didn’t it move when Fatty was talking?
Wu Xie and Fatty looked at Lin Yan strangely. Fatty asked doubtfully: “Do you have any special abilities? You say this mummified corpse actually got up?”
Zhang Qiling looked back. The mummified corpse was struggling hard. Even if the rope was strong, it probably wouldn’t last long. He walked to Wu Xie in three steps, took the shuttle dart from his hand, and without looking back, threw it. The shuttle dart accurately flew towards the mummified corpse’s stomach.
Lin Yan was shocked: “I give this move a full score!”
Wu Xie asked him curiously: “What does ‘move’ mean?”
Right, I forgot. They don’t have such sassy talk yet! Lin Yan didn’t have time to answer him, and the explosion arrived as scheduled.
After a loud bang, a blast of air rolled them up. Lin Yan felt like he was experiencing those difficult four hours in the storm again. He was like a lone boat tossed up and down by the blast, spinning countless times before crashing into something.
It was quite soft. The thought flashed through his mind, and he completely fainted.
No one knew how long it had been. When Lin Yan woke up, his head was buzzing, and he felt dizzy and his vision blurred, worse than his last concussion. He knew this was caused by the aftershocks of the explosion and that he would recover after a while, so he shook his head, trying to clear his head, and decided that his priority was to find the others.
He staggered to his feet, feeling like the world was spinning. If he hadn’t held onto the wall, he would have collapsed again. He remembered that they were all not far from each other when the explosion happened, and the shockwave wouldn’t have separated them too far. The three should be nearby. As expected, after taking a few steps, he kicked something soft.
He looked down, and it was a leg. He rushed over and dug the person out of the rubble. It was indeed Wu Xie!
“Wu Xie? Are you okay? Wake up?” He patted Wu Xie’s face and happened to feel his carotid artery—fortunately, his pulse was strong enough, so it wasn’t a big deal.
Wu Xie only felt like someone was patting his face, and someone was saying something in his ear, but the aftershocks of the explosion made his ears ring and he felt nauseous, unable to hear anything clearly. He struggled to open his eyes and, in his spinning vision, saw Lin Yan’s face.
He gasped and opened his mouth, saying his first words after waking up: “Lin Yan! You damn it, you hit me again!”
