Chapter 128: Not Afraid, It’s A Beastman
Su Ran aimed the bow and arrow at the one closest to the edge among that group of wild chickens.
The position where that wild chicken stood was still quite far from the other wild chickens.
If she could hit it in one shot, it probably wouldn’t immediately scare away the other nearby wild chickens.
Su Ran’s arrowhead was directly aimed at the wild chicken’s wings. Shooting from there would cover the largest area and be easiest to hit.
She drew the bowstring, quietly aimed for a few seconds, then suddenly released her fingers!
In an instant, the arrow flew off the string, making a small whooshing sound by Su Ran’s ear.
Immediately after, on the open space under the tree, a shrill scream from the wild chicken rang out!
The swift arrow pierced into the wild chicken’s body with a “puh” sound, sending the wild chicken flying back half a meter from the force, then it flapped a couple times and lay still on the ground, no longer moving!
Su Ran watched the shot wild chicken and raised an eyebrow, not rushing to move, but continuing to wait on the tree for a while.
Because of that wild chicken’s recent flapping, the nearby wild chickens were startled and flapped around below, fleeing in all directions for a while.
They flapped and flew away from the vicinity of that wild chicken, then watched from a distance for a moment before gradually gathering back toward this side.
Finally, they stopped about ten meters away from the tree where Su Ran and Gray were.
This distance was still within the shooting range of Su Ran’s bow and arrow.
Su Ran scanned the group of wild chickens, finally fixing her gaze on a wild chicken that had flown onto a tree diagonally opposite.
Then she drew the bow and arrow, nocking and drawing the string just like before.
Soon after, another whooshing sound rang by her ear, followed immediately by a terrified cry from the tree diagonally opposite.
“Gah, ao!!”
A wild chicken weighing a full five jin fell straight down from the tree!
And at the instant this wild chicken fell, the wild chickens on the ground immediately scattered like a disturbed nest!
Screams! Flapping wings! The rustling of shrubbery being brushed— all sounds mixed together!
This time, they finally seemed to realize danger had come, fleeing in panic in all directions.
And at this moment, Gray, who had been quietly squatting beside Su Ran, suddenly moved!
Its wings behind it “whoosh” unfolded in an instant.
As it flew out, its wings cut through the stifling hot air, stirring up a gust of hot wind.
In the blink of an eye, it had already flown ahead of the group of wild chickens’ escape route.
Then it “whoosh” folded its wings! It pushed off a nearby tree trunk with its arm, kicked hard with its legs, and grabbed a wild chicken that was just taking off in mid-air!
After landing, Gray directly threw the wild chicken in its hand under the tree where Su Ran was.
Then it quickly turned around and chased in the direction the wild chickens were fleeing, diving into the shrubbery.
At this time, Su Ran had already slung the bow onto her back, then supported herself on the tree trunk and sat down, waiting for Gray to catch wild chickens and return.
As she sat, she was still thinking about what food to get today besides wild chickens.
Lost in thought, suddenly a chill ran through her body, her sixth sense blared an alarm, and Su Ran abruptly looked down toward the woods at her feet.
The shrubs nearby were in clusters, not connected, but the half-person-high shrubs stretched continuously into the distance, still appearing lush and dense.
Su Ran quickly stood up from the tree trunk, took down the bow and arrow she had just slung behind her, and carefully scanned every patch of grass below.
This feeling of being watched— something was staring at her!
Su Ran’s gaze swept over the shrubbery below, the creepy sensation of being stared at growing stronger; without hesitation, she shouted loudly toward the direction Gray had entered the woods:
“Gray!!”
The quiet woods seemed to echo with her voice.
And in the next second after she shouted, Su Ran immediately saw a red tail flash by in a patch of shrubbery twenty meters to her right!
And before she could look more closely, she felt the tree trunk under her feet tremble; she whipped her head back and saw Gray, holding four wild chickens in each hand, already standing steadily beside her!
It looked at Su Ran with some doubt at first, but when it met Su Ran’s eyes full of shock and uncertainty, its aura instantly turned sharp and fierce.
“Ran Ran, what’s wrong?”
It let go of the wild chickens in its hands, and nearly ten wild chickens tumbled down from the tree.
The next moment, it grabbed Su Ran’s left hand that was still holding the bow, and upon feeling the unnatural chill in her palm, its expression grew even more grave.
“Over there…”
The hand with which Su Ran held the bow and arrow pointed toward the direction where that tail had flashed by; her brows were tightly furrowed, but her mood relaxed because of Gray’s return.
“Something was just there, don’t know if it was a beast or a beastman, red tail.”
“Wu? Over there?”
Gray’s already vigilant expression grew even more serious because of Su Ran’s words.
Its gaze followed the direction Su Ran pointed, and the next second, it scooped Su Ran up with one hand under her butt, holding her in its arms, then spread its wings and flew toward the direction Su Ran had pointed.
Gray held Su Ran and circled a few times in the air near that patch of shrubbery; after seeing nothing unusual from above, it slowly descended to the ground with Su Ran.
After landing, it first sniffed hard at the surrounding air.
Suddenly its gaze sharpened, and it turned sideways, blocking in front of Su Ran.
It looked back at Su Ran and made a follow-me gesture with its hand, then walked toward a patch of shrubbery.
Su Ran tensed up all over because of Gray’s sudden action.
She quickly slung the bow and arrow back onto her body, then drew the tactical knife hanging at her waist.
At this moment, she suddenly realized she should get a long saber to carry.
Otherwise, with this tactical knife whose handle was only about twenty centimeters, if they really encountered a beast attack, whether it could pierce the beast’s fur was questionable.
At a time like this, its power might not even match her homemade bone arrow!
And at this time, Gray, walking in front of Su Ran, reached out toward the shrubbery and parted it!
Behind the shrubbery was empty, the animal’s figure long gone.
But Gray’s expression didn’t relax in the slightest because of this.
It leaned close to that cluster of shrubbery, ears perked tightly, nose twitching, tail behind it swaying casually yet seemingly probing subtly.
“Ao wu~”
A few seconds later, it instinctively let out a low growl, its expression easing slightly, though the tension in its body didn’t lessen.
Then it turned to look at Su Ran, leaning in to rub cheeks with her: “Ran Ran, don’t be afraid, it’s a beastman oh~”
“Beastman?”
Su Ran was stunned, looking up in surprise.
“That one just now was a beastman?”
“But why was it secretly observing me?”
