Chapter 150: Seasonal Patterns
Su Ran felt that she could probably figure out the seasonal change time pattern for this continent.
The time for one year in this world was obviously much longer than one year on Earth.
From the three seasons she had experienced so far, since she arrived here during spring, she couldn’t confirm if spring was also five to six months long.
But the durations of the summer and autumn she had experienced were both around five or six months.
In other words, one year in this world was equivalent to two years on Earth.
Su Ran wrote the new date on the board she had recently made to record time.
Today was already the twelfth month and thirteenth day since she arrived in this world.
She arrived in this world at the end of spring in this world.
And now, after so much time had passed, autumn still hadn’t ended.
Su Ran made a simple clock the size of a water basin out of stone and placed it on the edge of the rain shelter in front of the house.
She marked time markings on the made clock against the watch on her wrist.
But for the sake of convenience, she only marked the markings for twelve numbers and didn’t get detailed to every minute inside.
The multi-functional watch came with the tool kit, and the battery inside was naturally new.
But Su Ran felt that since it was given away, the battery probably wouldn’t be that good either, estimated to have only about a year’s lifespan.
So just in case, she still made the timekeeping tool first.
The leaves on the trees in the forest rapidly turned yellow and fell off in just half a month.
But the beastmen’s hunting season seemed far from over.
The temperature had dropped a few degrees recently.
It was so cold that Su Ran put on a sweater, and over the sweater she wore a coat with fur facing inward.
The green vegetables drying outside the house had already been stacked in the vegetable cellar by Su Ran. Now the vegetable garden behind the house was planted with a patch of wild cabbage and housheng vegetable.
Those were brought back along the way every time Gray went out hunting, and when Su Ran went hunting in the woods.
With the current weather, it was okay during the daytime with sunlight, but at night, things left outside would start to freeze.
So for these sun-dried green vegetables, every night Su Ran would cover them with a layer of dry grass, and then cover the dry grass with a layer of animal hide blanket for warmth.
The blanket she used was the one she had sewn to press and store the dry grass for the four-eared ox to eat.
The next morning, she would go to the back and remove the animal hide blanket and dry grass from the wild vegetables.
Besides these leafy greens, Su Ran also dug up a lot of radishes and picked many other wild fruits she could find.
For these picked wild fruits, Su Ran didn’t dry them, but dug many uncovered wooden boxes.
She put these wild fruits in the boxes together with the radishes and stored them all in the vegetable cellar.
Among the found wild fruits, red meat fruit was the most numerous. After trying to store them for a while, Su Ran found that this kind of wild fruit was also the least likely to spoil.
Besides red meat fruit, the remaining wild fruits were small peach fruit, and a new kind of wild fruit discovered after autumn arrived.
This newly discovered wild fruit was very large, each one as big as a pomelo.
The wild fruit’s shell was dark brown with spikes like durian on the shell, but the green flesh inside was all in one piece.
Su Ran really liked the taste of this fruit; the flesh was very tender and sweet, full of moisture, and seemed to have a faint milky aroma.
Unfortunately, up to now she had only found one tree of this fruit, and even Gray didn’t know where else there were such fruit trees.
Su Ran named this wild fruit black thorn fruit.
She picked all the black thorn fruits from that entire tree and brought them home, planning to store them in the cellar to eat slowly.
Time flew by during the bustling hunting season.
In the blink of an eye, the small wooden house Su Ran used for storing meat was piled full of frozen raw meat.
The raw meat in the small wooden house was piled like a small hill, and even the ceiling inside the room was hung full of processed raw meat.
And this wasn’t even all the prey Gray hunted back in this hunting season.
Besides the small wooden house, the tool room in the storage room and the grain room inside were also piled with mountains of frozen meat.
And outside, in the rain shelter next to the small wooden house where firewood was stored, half the space was also cleared to pile up frozen meat.
These past two days, Gray went out hunting less frequently, and the prey brought back was much less.
After asking, Su Ran learned that slightly larger prey had mostly migrated deeper into the forest by now, and they were a bit far from here.
This also signaled that the beastmen’s annual hunting season was coming to an end.
After hearing Gray’s explanation, Su Ran felt it was because the settlement’s vicinity was too close to the seaside.
When winter came, it would surely be even colder.
So the animals had all gone deeper into the forest where the sea wind couldn’t reach to overwinter.
But thinking of the seaside, she suddenly remembered there was one thing she hadn’t stored.
In such a cold winter season, wasn’t it perfect for freezing seafood to store and eat slowly.
“Gray, are there still scallops at the seaside now?”
Su Ran asked Gray uncertainly.
After the weather turned colder, Gray’s vest and capri pants were finally changed to a pullover long-sleeve and long pants.
To prevent its face from freezing during flight, Su Ran also made two cotton masks for it to alternate, though wearing the mask somewhat affected its sense of smell.
Even so, Gray liked this thing right after using the cotton-padded mask for the first time.
Su Ran thought it was probably because during high-speed flight, its face was really frozen by the cold air dropping to nearly minus twenty degrees!
“Yes, now the seafood is even bigger!”
“Really?” Su Ran’s eyes lit up, and she quickly jumped down from the heated brick bed: “Then let’s go get some more seafood to freeze!”
So ten minutes later, Su Ran, wrapped up round and plump all over, took two animal hide bags with Gray and set off from home.
They set off from home at ten in the morning.
The sunlight was good today, and it wasn’t too cold on the ground.
But when being carried by Gray flying at high speed in the air, the original gentle breeze and warm sun instantly turned into gale and cold air!
When setting off, Su Ran was also wearing a mask on her face like Gray.
But she was still blown by the wind so that she could only tightly fasten the hat on the cloak draped over her body to the top of her head, and bury her entire face in Gray’s neck hollow.
By the time they arrived at the seaside, Su Ran felt like her whole body was about to freeze stiff!
At this moment, she regretted immensely the decision to come pick seafood.
Now she just wanted to quickly light a campfire and sit in front of it without going anywhere, and just thinking about having to fly back like this later made her want to cry without tears!
