Chapter 190: 【destiny】
“They found us, so fast.” Anse’s heart stirred.
He couldn’t go out now; the enemy’s strength was unknown, and going out would likely lead to an attack and expose the existence of the otherworldly space.
As for Aldon, if this matter had nothing to do with him, going out would only implicate him. Not going out meant no evidence, and with the halflings’ unity, the Blarock City prince couldn’t casually deal with him.
If the opponent couldn’t find anyone, they were unlikely to keep guarding the room forever.
Anse remained relatively calm; Hollewen was under the protection of divination magic, so safety was guaranteed.
If the enemy was powerful enough to teleport directly in, he had nothing to say; being obedient might still preserve his dragon life.
The safest method right now was to stay here for seven days, wait for the Traveler’s Badge to cool down, then teleport to Traveler’s Respite and seek official help.
As long as he was willing to spend money, there were plenty of solutions.
“Now, let’s boost my strength first.”
He picked up that white Wheel of Fortune Card, and the moment he touched it, the dice trembled slightly, blurred for an instant, then spun rapidly before stopping abruptly.
Ding—
【All things are uncertain, current roll: Misfortune】
Moments later, the dice leaped into the air on their own, rolling again upon landing.
【All things are uncertain, current roll: Uncertainty】
Anse wasn’t in a hurry and waited silently.
A few minutes later, he noticed that this card mostly landed on Uncertainty, with Misfortune and Good Luck appearing only occasionally.
“What’s going on here? Do different cards have biases too?” He thought this possibility was high.
Perhaps the card creator could even adjust the expected effects of the cards.
He simply stopped overthinking and immediately activated the Wheel of Fortune Card mentally the moment Good Luck was rolled.
The card suddenly lit up, and a vague, chaotic trajectory appeared on its face, leaving one baffled.
【Wheel of Fortune Card: Destiny】
The existence of reality itself is dismantled and rewoven, allowing you to avoid or erase an event that has already occurred, as if it never happened. You can activate this effect at any time before your death.
In the next instant, the card shattered, turning into countless spiritual lights that converged into an abstract human face pattern, flying into Anse’s forehead and vanishing.
“Do I really have some intimate connection with Timora?” Anse touched his forehead, somewhat incredulous.
【Destiny】 is one of the strongest cards among the Wheel of Fortune Cards, capable of directly altering reality and reversing life and death.
The most common use was probably to trigger it before death, avoiding or erasing the occurrence of that battle, making everything as if it never happened.
He could activate 【Destiny】 right now to erase this current trap and return directly to Jacqueline Castle.
He just didn’t know how the actual effect worked—would the memories of people involved in the event be erased?
His mind wandered, considering various scenarios where 【Destiny】 might be used, but it was all guesswork. Altering reality itself was very abstract, involving many time and physical paradoxes.
“There must be limits; it can’t exceed legendary level.” He noted this silently.
If the event was too significant to erase, causing the card to fail, that would be utterly devastating.
Just like the reality-reshaping effect of a ninth-circle Wish spell, the grander the wish, the higher the probability of error.
Wishing for a divine artifact might instantly teleport the spellcaster to the current holder of that item.
“Good stuff, good stuff.” He felt great, suddenly full of confidence, and grew even more expectant about the second card.
He picked up the second black Wheel of Fortune Card, and the dice spun and leaped, rolling again.
Ding—
【All things are uncertain, current roll: Good Luck】
He didn’t wait and activated it decisively.
The card suddenly lit up, with five-colored light and shadow flowing across its face, ultimately forming an ice flower surrounded by misty cold air.
【Wheel of Fortune Card: Element(Cold)】
Your body fears no bitter cold; you gain cold immunity!
“Great!” Anse grinned broadly.
Although he couldn’t choose the type of elemental immunity, it didn’t matter much; any elemental immunity was powerful, just suited to different scenarios.
Of course, cold immunity only protected against cold damage; spells like ice cones or ice blades with physical damage could still harm him.
“Cold works too.” He actually preferred fire immunity, since fire attacks were more common.
Bathing in fire and lava sounded cool too.
At this point, the card had quietly disintegrated, strands of elemental power swirling around Anse before gradually seeping into his body.
The Giant’s Radiance rainbow light on his skin bloomed, intertwining with it and rippling with circles of mana spiritual light.
Anse didn’t feel cold; instead, his whole body felt warm and cozy, with his hands and feet inexplicably a bit hotter.
This process lasted over an hour before gradually fading.
He pulled up his character card, which now had an additional entry:
「Immunity」: Cold.
“Not bad. Time to figure out how to break this situation.” Hiding for seven days was too cowardly, not his style.
He checked himself over; his status was excellent, mana 132/137, enough for a small-scale combat.
Surprisingly, the eighth symbol on the twenty-sided die was just a bit away from fully lighting up.
But aside from the siege at Jacqueline Castle, he hadn’t experienced other combats—just a trip to Traveler’s Respite and unexpectedly arriving in starry Blarock City.
“No wonder it’s called an adventure trait; looks like adventure counts more than combat.”
He opened his pocket watch; it was seven in the evening, Faerun’s evening time, but Blarock City’s time might not align with Faerun’s.
“No rush, wait a bit longer.”
He took off his combat robe, changed into the Star Robe, and began meditating with eyes closed.
Now he could attune to five magical items; with the Star Robe, he had to drop the Spell Storing Ring, but the impact was minor.
——
Blarock City, Hole-in-the-Ground District, Hole-in-the-Ground Tavern.
The entire tavern looked ransacked, littered with debris; the wine cabinet overturned, wine barrels shattered, wine flowing everywhere across the floor, the thick alcohol scent enough to intoxicate anyone.
Next to the bar, two halflings were pinned to wooden chairs with iron skewers, their bodies covered in torture marks, blood flowing down their clothes and chair legs to form a large dark red stain, already showing signs of clotting.
Even so, the dark thin gnome torturing them wouldn’t stop; his right hook claw pried open the young halfling’s scalp, his left hand slowly tearing with increasing force, a sickly smile on his face.
The halfling was barely breathing, without even the strength to wail, only twitching in pain.
Aldon nearby closed his eyes powerlessly and said weakly, “I really don’t know where the person you’re talking about is…”
“Still stubborn; my subordinate clearly saw him come in.” The dark thin gnome sneered.
At that moment, a tiefling in leather armor with a bow and arrow on his back emerged from the side door, bowing slightly to the shadow under the wall lamp: “Boss, searched again, nothing.”
In the corner, a figure in a black robe sat quietly under the wall lamp, hooded, face obscured, idly playing with a set of tarot cards, fingers thin and pale.
“Teleport, or otherworldly space?” He casually drew a card and flipped it over—it was the Star card.
Bang bang bang! Urgent knocking sounded at the tavern door again, with faint shouts of Aldon’s name.
Aldon started to respond, but the dark thin gnome punched his chin, forcing the words back.
“So annoying.” At the door, a blue-skinned orc grumbled in dissatisfaction.
He was massively built, over two and a half meters tall, clad in heavy armor, leaning on a great axe, impatience on his face.
