Chapter 133: Leave No Survivors
Xia Chenge’s voice trembled slightly as she gently shook him.
Ling Hanmu’s eyes remained tightly shut, unmoving.
“How is he?” Jiang Xian got out of the car quickly, asking anxiously.
Xia Chenge finally came back to her senses and secretly checked Ling Hanmu. She found that his physical indicators had returned to normal; he had simply fainted from exhaustion, just like last time.
Half of the weight on Xia Chenge’s heart was finally lifted. As long as Ling Hanmu was not in mortal danger, that was good.
“He’s fine. He probably just hit his head and fainted,” Xia Chenge made up an excuse to brush it off, not wanting Jiang Xian to worry.
“Who were those people?” Jiang Xian frowned as he looked at the two cars.
Xia Chenge took a deep breath. “I’m not sure either.”
She knew Xu Jingyi had hired killers to deal with her, but she hadn’t expected him to act so quickly and even try to kill Jiang Xian, defying all reason!
There seemed to be a force lurking in the shadows, pushing things forward.
Who could it be? Someone who wanted to eliminate Jiang Xian as well? Could it be that laboratory from before?
Various mysteries lay before Xia Chenge, tangled like a ball of yarn, impossible to unravel for the moment.
“Should we call the police?” Jiang Xian asked for Xia Chenge’s opinion.
“No.” Xia Chenge shook her head. If it was truly related to that laboratory, even the police wouldn’t find anything, and it would only put her in a more passive situation.
“What about those people? Are they all dead?” Jiang Xian had been lying in the back seat and hadn’t seen Xia Chenge act, so he didn’t know what had happened.
“Probably dead.” With that kind of multi-car pile-up and impact against the roadside embankment, the chances of survival were slim.
Xia Chenge gently placed Ling Hanmu on the ground. She found Ling Hanmu’s mobile phone in the driver’s seat and called Ling Zhongjing: “Uncle, we were attacked, and Xiao Mu fainted again. Our location is on the Huancheng Avenue, Bishuitan section.”
Upon hearing this, Ling Zhongjing’s voice changed: “How are you now? Are you injured? I’ll be there immediately.”
“Jiang Lao and I are fine. It’s just that Xiao Mu fainted. He’s not in mortal danger, but the situation here needs your assistance to handle,” Xia Chenge said calmly.
Her voice carried a reassuring power that greatly relaxed Ling Zhongjing, and he immediately made arrangements.
After hanging up, Xia Chenge walked back to Ling Hanmu and squatted down, secretly taking his hand to channel her healing power into him.
However, this powerful healing energy seemed to vanish into the sea, causing no ripple when it reached Ling Hanmu.
Xia Chenge was startled again. In the apocalypse, healing power was a more miraculous existence than medicine. Apart from being unable to cure the zombie virus, sufficiently powerful healing could even bring people back from the dead.
What had Ling Hanmu gone through?
Jiang Xian observed Ling Hanmu for a while before speaking softly: “Why do I feel like Xiao Mu is a bit different from normal people?”
Xia Chenge’s pupils contracted slightly at his words, but she quickly regained her composure. “Why do you think so?”
“The car didn’t actually collide with that other car just now, and Xiao Mu suddenly fainting is really abnormal. Is he sick?” Jiang Xian asked. “I remember the Ling family asked me to examine him many times, but I was busy with an important research project and refused. Later, I heard rumors that he wouldn’t live past twenty.”
Just as Xia Chenge was about to reply, she suddenly heard movement from the car in front.
She looked up and saw a person covered in blood crawling out of the car. Trembling, he raised a gun and aimed it at them. In the moonlight, his grinning face looked like a demon crawling out of hell: “Die!”
Bang!
The bullet shot directly at Jiang Xian, who watched helplessly.
Just as the bullet was about to hit Jiang Xian, a fair and slender hand suddenly blocked in front of him, instantly clenching into a fist.
“Is that all?” Xia Chenge sneered, her hand catching the bullet.
Seeing this, the man’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Here you go!” Xia Chenge flicked her wrist, and the bullet shot back with lightning speed.
The next moment, a large bloody hole appeared in the man’s forehead. He fell straight down, eyes wide open, never understanding why Xia Chenge could catch a bullet with her bare hands so incredibly.
“Jiang Lao, are you alright?” Xia Chenge asked with concern.
“I… I’m fine.” Jiang Xian was still in shock. A moment later, he murmured, “Xiao Ge, how did you do that?”
“Jiang Lao, this is our secret, okay?” Xia Chenge knew that no matter how she explained, Jiang Xian wouldn’t be convinced, so she simply went along with his words.
“Xiao Ge, did you force the car to stop just now?” Jiang Xian asked again. “Who exactly are you?”
Jiang Xian looked at her, a hint of eager anticipation in his eyes: “Your theory about life evolution far surpasses anything we can propose. Don’t you also believe that humanity will one day evolve to be more perfect than it is now?”
“Jiang Lao, I was just talking casually. Please don’t take it seriously.” Xia Chenge felt guilty for the first time.
Evolved humans were not supposed to appear in this era. Not only had she evolved, but she had evolved to the most perfect state. Once exposed, she feared she would spend the rest of her life in hiding.
Because she would become a lab rat to be studied.
Although she didn’t fear the technology of this era, she didn’t want to turn against humanity.
“When you’re ready to talk, you can. I’ll wait until you’re willing to tell me,” Jiang Xian didn’t pressure her.
She had underestimated the humans of this era; their observational skills were truly too sharp. Jiang Xian had already noticed her difference, so had the force lurking in the shadows also discovered her uniqueness? Xia Chenge mused, suddenly feeling like she had become someone’s prey.
The Ling family acted quickly. In just fifteen minutes, they arrived at Xia Chenge’s location.
Just as Ling Zhongjing hurried out of the car to approach them, Ling Hanmu suddenly woke up.
He looked at Xia Chenge blankly: “Little Brother, why am I lying on the ground?”
“There was a small accident just now, and you fainted,” Jiang Xian said. “Fortunately, you’re okay.”
“Is that so?” Ling Hanmu frowned, his handsome brows furrowed. His gaze fell on Ling Zhongjing, and his expression immediately turned serious: “What happened? Why is my old man here?”
Surprise flickered in Jiang Xian’s eyes, and he subconsciously looked at Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge said gently: “You fainted.”
Ling Hanmu immediately understood. Every time he went berserk, he would faint and lose consciousness, then forget what had happened during that period.
“Little Brother, I…”
“Shh…” Xia Chenge made a shushing gesture. “We’ll talk about it when we get back. Jiang Lao, you too.”
Jiang Xian was stunned for a moment.
Ling Zhongjing also heard this and suddenly felt uneasy.
“Uncle, take care of those people. Leave no survivors,” Xia Chenge said calmly to Ling Zhongjing. When she acted, she had secretly destroyed the surveillance systems of the three cars. Her secrets could not be revealed.
