Chapter 179: The Mantis Stalks the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole Behind
The film crew people were making noise and laughing until past eleven o’clock, then they ordered late-night takeout, ate and drank, and played until one in the morning before they were satisfied and dispersed to their respective rooms.
Xia Chenge took out her room card and was about to swipe it to open the door when her movement suddenly paused, and she frowned.
Someone was in the room!
She didn’t go in immediately but called out to Ling Hanmu, who was also about to open his room door, “Xiao Mu, do you have my mobile phone?”
Ling Hanmu was stunned for a moment, immediately sensing something was off.
Xia Chenge pointed at the room and continued as she walked over, “Did you take my mobile phone? Give it to me quickly.”
Ling Hanmu reached into his pocket and felt around. “It’s not with me. I don’t know if I dropped it near Meng Yufei’s room just now! Let’s go, I’ll go with you to check!”
Ling Hanmu’s room and Meng Yufei’s room were on opposite sides of this floor. As the two walked towards Meng Yufei’s room, Xia Chenge took the opportunity to check if anyone was in the other rooms.
Xia Chenge knocked on Meng Yufei’s room door, and Meng Yufei looked surprised. “Aren’t you going to sleep?”
“I’m looking for my mobile phone!” Xia Chenge deliberately spoke loudly to steady the person in her room, then entered and pretended to search, finding her mobile phone.
“You scatterbrain,” Meng Yufei grumbled.
Xia Chenge chuckled twice and turned back to her room.
Only her room and Ling Hanmu’s room had been entered; no other rooms had been disturbed, so she felt relieved.
“Be careful,” Ling Hanmu whispered in her ear.
“Mm, you too.” Xia Chenge agreed. The reason she didn’t expose them was mainly because she was worried these people might have other weapons, and she wasn’t confident she could guarantee the safety of the rest of the film crew one hundred percent.
Then, Xia Chenge took out her room card and, without any hesitation, swiped it to open the door.
As soon as the door opened, she darted inside and quickly locked it from the inside, but she didn’t insert the card to draw power. She blended into the darkness like a cat, her presence undetectable.
The person lurking in the room, who was about to make a move when she entered, was horrified to find that their target had vanished in the blink of an eye.
The room’s blackout curtains were drawn, plunging it into complete darkness, making it impossible to see, let alone find Xia Chenge’s trace!
How could they be so fast?
The atmosphere in the room instantly became oppressive and tense. Everyone except Xia Chenge felt a sense of dread.
Where was the person?
They couldn’t find Xia Chenge, yet they dared not move rashly.
For a moment, the small room became eerie.
Meanwhile, Xia Chenge was standing behind the man lying on the floor by the window at the foot of the bed.
She could see in the dark; she knew exactly where they were hiding.
They all looked nervous, their breathing becoming rapid. It seemed they were very scared!
Xia Chenge smirked wickedly.
She raised her foot and stepped on the man’s calf, immediately startling the highly focused man into a yelp and a jump.
Xia Chenge flickered and was already behind the second person.
This time, she pulled the second person’s hair. The second person, as if seeing a ghost, scrambled to the side and started shouting.
Seeing this, the third person, prepared, hissed sternly, “Come out, stop playing spooky games!”
*Click.*
The room suddenly lit up, and the television turned on simultaneously, its volume amplified.
Accustomed to the darkness, they couldn’t adapt to the sudden light and instinctively raised their hands to shield their eyes.
In that instant, Xia Chenge whirled around the room like a gust of wind. The three men fell heavily to the ground, tangled like arhats, not even having time to scream.
Xia Chenge stepped on the back of the topmost man. “Speak. What were you trying to do sneaking around?”
Upon hearing this, the three men were startled and tried to struggle.
However, they despaired to find that their backs felt as if a thousand pounds were pressing down on them, making them unable to budge even an inch.
“Are you going to talk?” Xia Chenge applied more pressure.
“Ah!” The three immediately cried out in pain.
However, the sound of the television completely drowned out their screams.
“If you don’t talk, I’ll get serious. Who do you think I should start with?” Xia Chenge suddenly drew a sharp dagger and gestured at the face of the topmost man. “Do you know what I like to do most?”
“You, don’t do anything rash!” The man on top stared at her with wide, terrified eyes.
“I love to give people tattoos on their faces, but I must warn you, my technique isn’t that good,” Xia Chenge said with a gentle smile.
But to the three men, Xia Chenge at that moment was more terrifying than a demon.
“Are you going to talk?” Xia Chenge’s tone suddenly rose. “Don’t think I won’t act just because you have someone behind you!”
“Don’t do anything rash. We, we just accidentally entered the wrong room,” the man stammered, explaining, “We didn’t mean to come in.”
“This is the top floor of the hotel, and our film crew has booked the entire floor. Do you think that excuse can convince yourself? Also, I know very well which guesthouse inn you are staying at. If I call the police, what kind of accident do you think your families will die in?”
Xia Chenge spoke casually, but to the three men, her words were no different from a death knell, striking terror into their hearts and making them tremble.
“I’m not one for negotiation. I’ll give you time to think. Of course, I must advise you first: without my permission, leaving here is harder than ascending to heaven.” Xia Chenge withdrew her foot and slowly walked to the window, then with a whoosh, she opened the curtains.
Aren’t they going to make a move yet? Xia Chenge glanced at the building opposite, intentionally or unintentionally.
To ensure these people’s actions were foolproof, they even used a listening device! A hint of mockery flickered across Xia Chenge’s face. The moment she discovered someone in the room, she had focused her attention on all the movements on the nearby floors.
Since they were prepared, how could she ignore the intense killing intent?
All this talk was nothing more than a ploy to force the people in the shadows to reveal themselves.
The three men, completely unaware that they had been condemned to death by the people monitoring them, thought for several minutes before quietly asking, “If I tell you, can you let me go?”
Xia Chenge turned around as if by chance, then grabbed some dried fruit from the table and smiled slightly. “You have no right to bargain!”
The man gritted his teeth. He couldn’t defeat the young girl in front of him, and everything was in her hands. The only thing he could do seemed to be to obediently tell her everything and save his life.
If he had known Xia Chenge was so difficult to deal with, he would never have accepted this mission, even if it meant death! Unfortunately, there was no medicine for regret.
“I was ordered to take you away.” The three men exchanged glances and made a decision. The man who had just spoken began to explain, “To a…”
As soon as he started speaking, a bullet broke through the window, aimed at the speaker.
The man’s eyes widened as he saw death approaching, his mouth frozen open.
Just as he thought he was doomed, in a flash, he was suddenly lifted into the air. Then, the world spun, and he was thrown onto the soft bed.
At the same time, the dried fruit in Xia Chenge’s hand shot out, heading directly for the source of the bullet.
