Chapter 229: Those Late Tears
Chapter Two Hundred and Twenty-Nine: Those Late Tears ()
The driver drove quietly in front, Ji Xiangyu sat in the passenger seat, looking through the car mirror at Qing Tian half-hugging Song Shishi in the back seat. Her eyes showed no discernible emotion. Ever since Qing Tian regained all her memories, she had been this calm, her eyes showing no discernible emotion!
This kind of calmness is more unbearable; it would be better if Qing Tian cried and made a scene than for her to remain silent!
The car drove in the direction Song Shishi had indicated. Half an hour later, it entered the mountains. The winding mountain road seemed to go on forever before finally stopping at a mountaintop. After getting out of the car, they looked out at rows and rows of graves!
Instantly, the sky turned dark and oppressive, and the atmosphere became incredibly somber. Perhaps it is places like this that make one feel it is difficult to breathe!
Qing Tian hugged Song Shishi and said, “Shishi, we’re going to visit Grandfather. Don’t be too sad. Grandfather definitely wouldn’t want us to be crying!”
All the memories flooded back to her childhood, when Mother was still alive, when Grandfather and Grandmother were still alive, when Grandfather was still alive. Why did such perfect scenes become mere memories?
She dared not think further and walked together to a privet tree. A black tombstone stood before them, surrounded by overgrown weeds. It looked like no one had visited Grandfather in a long time!
Qing Tian squatted down and began diligently pulling out the weeds one by one, not even sparing the newly sprouted ones. She sighed inwardly and said, “Grandfather, Qing Tian will visit you often from now on. I will take good care of the surroundings for you! Grandfather, don’t worry, I will definitely take good care of Shishi!”
She seemed to have many things she wanted to say to Grandpa Song, but facing the cold, black tombstone, not a single word could escape her lips. She could only silently speak the words that were already too late in her heart. She never imagined that the meeting five years ago would be the last. If she had known it was the last time, she would never have left so resolutely!
Qing Tian suppressed the tears about to fall and continued to pull weeds. Ji Xiangyu and Song Shishi, standing nearby, couldn’t bear to watch Qing Tian frantically weeding as if she had gone mad!
Ji Xiangyu walked to Qing Tian’s side, squatted down, and held her hand as she weeded. He persuaded her, “Qing Tian, that’s enough. It’s clean enough. Grandfather knows your intentions. Can we stop now?”
Qing Tian removed Ji Xiangyu’s hand and continued weeding, saying excitedly, “No, Grandfather must be angry that I didn’t come back to see him one last time. I can’t stop!”
Ji Xiangyu looked at Qing Tian helplessly as she weeded with near-insane intensity!
At this moment, Song Shishi suddenly shouted, “Sister Qing, Grandpa is dead, dead! Look carefully, Grandpa is dead! No matter what you do, you can’t make up for it. Grandpa is dead, so it’s enough. Stop weeding. Grandpa loved you so much, how could he bear to see you ruin yourself like this!”
Qing Tian froze and turned to look at Song Shishi, who was standing not far away. Tears streamed down Song Shishi’s face. Qing Tian suddenly felt her vision blur, unable to see Song Shishi’s face clearly, or even Ji Xiangyu’s face. The entire world became hazy!
Her heart ached, making it impossible to breathe!
Another person who loved her the most had departed!
Ji Xiangyu took out a handkerchief and gently and carefully wiped the tears from Qing Tian’s face. They flowed more and more, like a faucet turned on, ceaseless!
Finally, he decisively and directly held Qing Tian, letting her cry in his arms!
The next second, Qing Tian composed herself and said with a dry laugh, “Grandfather must hate me, hate me for always crying!”
Ji Xiangyu held Qing Tian’s hand and said with worry, “No, Grandfather will definitely be happy that Qing Tian has returned!”
Song Shishi tilted her head back and sighed deeply at the sky!
Qing Tian placed a bouquet of half-bloomed white lilies on Grandpa Song’s tombstone. She chose white lilies because they are elegant and symbolize the hope of the living for the departed to go to heaven!
She hoped that Grandfather would be well, happy, and at peace in heaven!
Qing Tian said with a hoarse voice, “Grandfather, Qing Tian has come to see you!”
As soon as she finished speaking, her nose stung, and tears flowed silently, uncontrollably!
The scene seemed to stretch out, three figures standing in the sunshine, silently gazing at the tombstone. No one spoke, as if they were all mourning the departed.
