Chapter 16: Jiang Yuan Was Scared By His Actions
Jiang Yuan originally thought the mole man had been scared away, but unexpectedly saw his obese figure at the convenience store downstairs in the residential community.
She frowned displeasedly, “That bastard hasn’t left yet?”
The mole man stood at the entrance of the convenience store, a cigarette between his fingers, staring at them with ill intentions.
Jiang Yuan clenched the hand hanging by her side, “Sister, I think this is too dangerous. Why don’t you take Zhan Zhan and Momo home to stay?”
Jiang Die was dazed for a few seconds before gently saying, “Don’t worry, he probably wouldn’t dare to do anything. It would be too much trouble for Mom and Dad if we stayed home, so let’s not.”
She really wanted to go home, but she knew she wasn’t welcome there.
Jiang Yuan opened her mouth, suddenly unsure what to say.
It was she who had tearfully insisted that their parents kick the pregnant Jiang Die out of the house.
Later, Jiang Die missed home and her parents but didn’t dare to go back. Each time, she would stand downstairs of their home and watch them from afar.
“Sister.” Jiang Yuan said softly, “I’m sorry.”
The two had already walked to the downstairs of Zhan Zhan and Momo’s daycare center. Hearing her younger sister apologize, Jiang Die paused for a moment.
“Silly, why are you apologizing out of the blue?” She smiled and changed the topic, “By the way, what do you want for dinner?”
Jiang Yuan furrowed her slender eyebrows, her reddened eyes shimmering slightly with crystalline tears, her voice choked, “Sister, I’m truly sorry to you.”
Jiang Die sensed something was wrong with her voice and turned her head to look, asking nervously, “Why are you crying?”
She quickly rummaged through her bag for a handkerchief to wipe Jiang Yuan’s tears.
“Sister.” Jiang Yuan reached out, hugged her tightly, and cried pitifully.
Jiang Die felt both heartache and amusement. She raised her hand and gently patted Jiang Yuan’s back, coaxing, “Tell me what’s wrong, and I’ll back you up.”
“I’m not wronged, you are.” At this moment, Jiang Yuan felt utterly sinful.
Jiang Die heard this and couldn’t help but laugh, “How could I be wronged?”
“You’ve been wronged so, so much.” Jiang Yuan sniffled, her voice trembling faintly, “But you never say anything.”
Jiang Die’s gaze slightly condensed, and her body trembled gently a few times.
Jiang Yuan noticed the suspicious glances from passing pedestrians and quickly wiped away her tears, adjusting her state, “Sister, hurry up and go get Zhan Zhan and Momo.”
Jiang Die wanted to ask her to go up with them, but worried that others would ask questions if they saw her crying. She reached out and adjusted her hat, “Okay, then wait for us.”
“Got it.” Jiang Yuan nodded.
After Jiang Die left, she looked down at her shoe tips, lost in thought.
The next second, a taro-flavored ice cream cone suddenly appeared before her eyes.
She was stunned for a few seconds and slowly looked up.
“Sister…”
Jiang Die looked at her with a smiling face, “I figured you might be bored, so have an ice cream cone first.”
Jiang Yuan felt a warmth in her heart, and her eyes also felt warm.
“Thank you, Sister.” She reached out and took the ice cream cone.
Jiang Die: “Then I’m going up.”
Jiang Yuan watched her enter the elevator, then lowered her eyes to look at the ice cream cone in her hand, so moved that she was about to cry again.
She must have accumulated several lifetimes of good fortune to have such a wonderful older sister.
Jiang Yuan pursed her lips, standing by the roadside, eating the ice cream cone and shedding tears.
But she never expected that this scene would be witnessed by Si Heng.
The man stood at the entrance of the fruit store opposite, carrying a bag of fruit, likely having just finished shopping.
Jiang Yuan, with her teary eyes, watched the figure of the other party gradually enlarge, his facial features becoming clearer.
Jiang Yuan: “…”
How awful!
Si Heng saw the long lashes laden with teardrops, her eyes and nose tip red, her expression dazed, and a sense of sadness revealing through her ignorance.
Jiang Yuan pursed her lips, at a loss for how to react, even forgetting to eat her ice cream, which had begun to melt.
Si Heng took out a pack of tissues from his pocket.
He took out a tissue but hesitated.
Should he first wipe her tears, or first wipe away the melting ice cream on her hand?
After a few seconds of thought, Si Heng wrapped the tissue around the ice cream cone, then took out another tissue to gently wipe the tears from the girl’s cheeks.
Jiang Yuan was startled by his actions and unconsciously retreated.
Si Heng paused for two seconds and handed her the tissues in his hand.
The previous few times she had seen Jiang Yuan, she was elegantly dressed and spoke indifferently, giving the impression of being emotionally stable, mature, and composed.
But today, she was wearing a pink down jacket and a fluffy white rabbit hat, crying and eating ice cream like a child who hadn’t grown up.
It was as if she had become a different person.
“Th-thank you.” Jiang Yuan sluggishly took the tissues, wishing she could find a hole to crawl into.
She haphazardly wiped her tears, coughed lightly, and explained, “Don’t misunderstand, I just think this ice cream is too delicious, and I was so moved that my eyes are watering.”
“I understand.” Si Heng replied, his deep eyes holding back a smile.
Jiang Yuan: “…”
Si Heng took out two bright red apples from the bag and handed them to her.
Jiang Yuan looked at the apples and then at him with her red eyes, “What?”
“An apple for you.” Si Heng said with a light laugh, “Thanks to your reminder, the Gu Lingling case was solved.”
Jiang Yuan puffed out her cheeks and deliberately said, “Although it was just a coincidence, Captain Si, two apples are too few.”
“Not enough?” Si Heng raised an eyebrow, “Then two more? Or would you prefer ice cream instead?”
Jiang Yuan: “…”
“Neither.” She took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to roll her eyes.
Si Heng put the two apples back into the bag.
Jiang Yuan thought he wasn’t giving her any apples and secretly complained in her heart: So stingy, so stingy!
Si Heng placed the entire bag of fruit at Jiang Yuan’s feet, “All for you.”
Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly and silently retracted her earlier complaint in her heart.
It turned out she had imagined it incorrectly.
Seeing Jiang Die approaching with the two children, Si Heng said goodbye, left the fruit, and turned to leave.
“Yuan Yuan.”
Jiang Die’s voice came from behind.
Jiang Yuan turned her head, her gaze falling on the two little ones holding her left and right hands.
Zhan Zhan and Momo met the vicious aunt’s gaze and obediently greeted her.
“Auntie.”
“Hello, Auntie.”
“Hello.” Jiang Yuan raised a gentle smile and asked, “Shall we have hot pot for dinner?”
Jiang Die naturally had no objection, “What kind of hot pot do you want? Coconut chicken, lamb, or beef?”
Jiang Yuan blinked, “What do Zhan Zhan and Momo want to eat?”
Hearing their vicious aunt’s words, Zhan Zhan and Momo were both flattered and surprised, their big round eyes staring at her in astonishment.
Although their aunt would pretend to care about them and act nicely in front of their mother, she had never asked them if they liked something or if they were willing.
What was wrong with their aunt today?
Seeing that the two children didn’t speak, Jiang Die gently repeated, “Zhan Zhan, Momo, have you decided what you want to eat?”
