Chapter 194: Implicated By This Vicious Female Supporting Character
Jiang Yuan finished breakfast and returned to Fuze Garden, where she happened to encounter Wang Xinyue, Cao Laoting’s daughter.
She got out of the taxi, wearing very revealing clothes. Her high heels wobbled as she stepped on the ground, clearly having just returned from a bar.
Wang Xinyue also spotted Jiang Yuan, looking her up and down before sneering, “You’re so tacky.”
Jiang Yuan couldn’t be bothered to deal with her and walked ahead with long strides.
“Hey! Jiang Yuan, I’m talking to you!” Wang Xinyue shouted discontentedly from behind her.
Jiang Yuan just wanted to get home, take a shower, and sleep, so she quickly entered the apartment building.
As she opened the door and entered the house, she found Jiang Dashan sitting on the sofa, smoking with a wall lamp on.
“Dad, are you not asleep yet or are you awake?” Jiang Yuan asked while changing her shoes.
Seeing her enter, Jiang Dashan extinguished the half-smoked cigarette in the ashtray. “You’re back?”
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Yuan sat beside him and asked curiously, “Are you worried about something?”
Jiang Dashan sighed. “Yes.”
Jiang Yuan pressed her lips together and said softly, “Dad, is it about that matter of mine?”
“If I said no, you definitely wouldn’t believe me.” Jiang Dashan couldn’t help but sigh again.
“Don’t overthink it.” Jiang Yuan put her arm around his shoulder, her tone becoming more serious, “I told you, I’m not leaving this home.”
“Okay.” Jiang Dashan nodded, his eyes slightly moist. “I won’t overthink it.”
Jiang Yuan thought for a moment, then asked, “Dad, do you and Mom want to find your biological daughter?”
Jiang Dashan was stunned for a few seconds and said helplessly, “So many years have passed, I’m afraid we won’t be able to find her.”
“There’s definitely a way.” Jiang Yuan patted his shoulder. “Look, the Meng family found her, didn’t they? We won’t know unless we try.”
Jiang Dashan pursed his lips and remained silent for a long time.
Jiang Yuan stood up. “Dad, I’m going to take a shower. You should go back to sleep for a while.”
“Okay.” Jiang Dashan nodded. “Go ahead, hurry.”
Jiang Yuan slept until past three in the afternoon, woken by a phone call from Zhou Shuyu.
“Hello, Shuyu.” Her voice had a nasal quality from just waking up.
Zhou Shuyu’s tone carried a hint of apology. “Yuan Yuan, did I wake you up?”
“No.” Jiang Yuan struggled to sit up, leaning against the headboard. “It’s about time to get up anyway. If I sleep too much, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
“That’s good then.” Zhou Shuyu breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, “Actually, I called because I wanted to ask you for a favor. Are you free tonight? We can chat while we eat.”
“Okay, I’m free.” Jiang Yuan agreed.
Before hanging up, Zhou Shuyu added, “By the way, invite Xiaoxiao to come along too.”
Upon learning that Zhou Shuyu had specifically asked to include her when inviting Jiang Yuan, Fu Xiaoxiao asked while driving, “Yuan Yuan, do you think she wants to be friends with me?”
Jiang Yuan, sitting in the passenger seat, turned her head to look at her with amusement. “I thought you were already friends.”
“Ah?” Fu Xiaoxiao said in surprise, “Did she say I was her friend?”
Jiang Yuan said helplessly, “Silly, if she didn’t consider you a friend, why would she invite you?”
Fu Xiaoxiao pursed her lips, suppressing the urge to let her own lips curve upwards crazily, and said with feigned calmness, “Alright then, since she wants to be my friend, I’ll agree.”
Jiang Yuan was amused by her.
As she laughed, she suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
In reality, Fu Xiaoxiao could have had many friends, but she was implicated by this vicious female supporting character and ended up with no friends.
Jiang Yuan looked out the car window at the scenery, murmuring, “Xiaoxiao, I’m sorry.”
“What are you talking about?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked. “I didn’t hear you clearly.”
Jiang Yuan gently shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
The two arrived at Zhou Shuyu’s new home, a spacious apartment with a river view that she had recently purchased. Her villa in North Bay had already been sold.
“You’re here.” Zhou Shuyu secured her hair in a bun with a clip, wearing an apron as she opened the door. “Yuan Yuan, Xiaoxiao.”
Jiang Yuan and Fu Xiaoxiao placed the gifts they brought on the coffee table.
Smelling the fragrance, Fu Xiaoxiao said with a smile, “What are you cooking? It smells so good.”
The two followed the scent into the kitchen and saw a steaming clay pot on the gas stove.
“Shuyu, are you cooking yourself?” Jiang Yuan turned to look at her.
Zhou Shuyu smiled and nodded. “My cooking isn’t very good, so please don’t laugh if it doesn’t taste good.”
Fu Xiaoxiao immediately said, “It smells so good, how could it possibly not taste good?”
“A home-cooked meal is the highest level of treatment.” Jiang Yuan asked curiously, “What are you cooking?”
“Garlic chicken with oysters.” Zhou Shuyu said as she lifted the lid, the fragrance becoming even richer.
Fu Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but swallow. “Wow, it looks so appetizing! Have you cooked rice?”
Jiang Yuan raised her eyebrows slightly. “Don’t you not eat rice?”
“I can’t resist today.” Fu Xiaoxiao took another deep inhale of the aroma. “It’s too fragrant. I’ll have to get my chef to learn this dish.”
“You haven’t even eaten it yet.” Zhou Shuyu was a little nervous. “What if I disappoint you…”
Jiang Yuan smiled and patted her shoulder. “I have confidence in you. Do you need any help?”
“No need. You two go play in the living room first. I’ll call you when it’s ready.” Zhou Shuyu ushered them out of the kitchen, as she felt more nervous with them watching her.
Zhou Shuyu prepared three dishes and one soup: garlic chicken with oysters, stir-fried beef, and a green vegetable dish, along with a pot of pork stomach soup.
Jiang Yuan and Fu Xiaoxiao started eating after taking pictures.
Midway through the meal, Jiang Yuan asked about what Zhou Shuyu had mentioned on the phone. “Didn’t you say you needed my help with something?”
“Yes.” Zhou Shuyu put down her chopsticks and looked at her, her expression becoming more serious. “I have a good friend whose family has a cat, but for the past two weeks, her cat has suddenly refused to eat.”
“Is it sick?” Fu Xiaoxiao asked in doubt.
Zhou Shuyu shook her head. “No, my friend also thought the cat was sick and took it to the pet hospital for an examination, but the vet said it was physically fine. It might be a psychological problem.”
“And then she found a psychologist, but it didn’t help?” Fu Xiaoxiao guessed.
Zhou Shuyu nodded and said slowly, “My friend loves her cat very much and is very worried about this. That’s why I wanted to ask you, Yuan Yuan, to help.”
“You could have asked Yuan Yuan about this a long time ago,” Fu Xiaoxiao said while eating oysters. “Why waste that money? This is a small matter for Yuan Yuan.”
Jiang Yuan, chewing meat, nodded in agreement.
Zhou Shuyu explained with a smile, “I only found out later.”
Jiang Yuan swallowed the meat in her mouth and asked, “Shuyu, where is your friend’s cat?”
Zhou Shuyu used serving chopsticks to give her an oyster. “We’ll have her bring it over after dinner. She lives downstairs.”
“Wow!” Fu Xiaoxiao cheered. “You live so close?”
Zhou Shuyu: “It’s convenient for us to look out for each other.”
Fu Xiaoxiao turned to look at Jiang Yuan and asked expectantly, “Yuan Yuan, then should we…”
