Chapter 275: Meng Yunlan’s Deep And Calculating Side
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Yuan immediately searched for the Linjin Wildlife Park’s video account on her mobile phone. The latest updated video was about Hu Yang and Cui Hua’s affectionate daily life.
She sat cross-legged on the floor, and eight large heads immediately leaned over, enveloping her like a dark cloud.
On the screen, Hu Yang was constantly following Cui Hua around, begging for cuddles.
Sometimes Cui Hua would get annoyed by its persistence and would yell at it a few times.
Hu Yang was instantly scared, its tiger body trembling, and it said plaintively, “Wife, don’t be fierce to me, okay? I just like you too much that’s why I want to be close to you.”
“Good heavens!” Hu Jiu’s tiger eyes widened, utterly incredulous. “Hu Yang is this cowardly?”
Hu Rui was also shocked. “This isn’t right. Hu Yang didn’t seem like this before!”
“Hu Yang didn’t talk like this before either,” Hu Ka added. “He sounds like a female like this!”
Hu Lie said with disdain, “He has no masculinity at all!”
“Exactly…”
A group of straight males who had never been in love were all puzzled by Hu Yang’s change.
“Perhaps males in love are all like this,” Jiang Yuan chuckled. “It’s not a lack of masculinity, it’s doting on his wife.”
Hu Rui pouted. “Is that what happens when you have a wife? Then I don’t want a wife!”
“Me neither!” Hu Lie quickly chimed in. “Having a wife has no benefits at all!”
“What is Hu Yang thinking…”
Listening to the Tiger Brothers’ words, Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow and said, “How about I record all of this for you and post it online? If anyone regrets it later and looks for a wife, they can watch this video.”
The tigers all agreed.
Jiang Yuan recorded individual videos for them and edited their “bold declarations” into captions, uploading eight videos at once.
She looked up. The sky shed its azure robe, large clouds stained a passionate red by the setting sun, and dusk unfurled slowly like a gentle veil from the distant horizon.
The viewing platform, which had been bustling with people, now had only a few individuals left.
It was already closing time, and the zoo’s security guards were using loudspeakers to clear the area, urging the remaining tourists to leave in an orderly fashion.
Jiang Yuan also bid farewell to the Tiger Brothers and as she drove away, the system’s voice suddenly sounded in her mind.
【System 009: Congratulations on completing the hidden mission: Assisting the Lion; Reward obtained: 50 points, 500,000 cash. 】
Jiang Yuan’s hand on the steering wheel tightened abruptly, joy blooming on her face, her gaze intense.
The Meng family atmosphere was solemn. Shen Airu had been like a lost soul for the past week; even delicacies placed before her couldn’t stir her appetite. She had lost a lot of weight.
“Mom, please don’t be like this, okay? I’m really worried about you,” Meng Yunlan said, holding the woman’s hand, speaking words of concern while feeling disdain and disgust in her heart.
“I’m fine,” Shen Airu shook her head, her voice weak and frail, her tightly furrowed brow etched with sadness. “Don’t worry about me.”
Meng Yunlan’s eyes were filled with glistening tears, and she choked out, “You’re my most beloved mother, how could I not worry?”
“Silly child, I’m really fine,” Shen Airu’s tone was weary. “You go about your business, don’t mind me.”
“I’m not busy, Mom, you’re the most important,” Meng Yunlan acted very filial.
Old woman, if it weren’t for Jiang Yuan’s death, I wouldn’t have known you cared so much about your own biological child!
So disgusting, so hypocritical!
Shen Airu raised her hand to her forehead, truly lacking the energy to respond to her daughter’s concern. “Lanlan, I want to sleep for a while.”
“Okay,” Meng Yunlan quickly helped her back to her room to rest. “Mom, don’t be afraid, I’ll stay here and watch over you.”
Shen Airu opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing, gently closing her eyes.
Meng Yunlan stared at her, and the concerned gaze in her eyes instantly turned to annoyance.
In her previous life, the Meng family had only felt disgust towards Jiang Yuan. Why, in this new life, did this family care so much about Jiang Yuan?
She remembered that in her previous life, Jiang Yuan had lived to twenty-five, but now she had died before even reaching her twenty-fourth birthday.
Was it because she died early and wasn’t brought back to the Meng family, and the Meng family didn’t see how foolish and ignorant she was, so they started to cherish her after her death?
Meng Yunlan frowned tightly, her face as if hiding a myriad of worries, her eyes revealing deep scheming.
Shen Airu inadvertently caught a glimpse of her expression and was so startled that she quickly closed her eyes.
Did she just see wrong?
How could Lanlan, who had always been simple-minded, kind, and beautiful, have such a deeply calculating side?
Shen Airu opened her eyes again, only to find Meng Yunlan still wearing the same expression.
What was she thinking?
Meng Yunlan was lost in thought and didn’t notice Shen Airu looking at her.
“Lanlan,” Shen Airu called out uneasily.
Meng Yunlan immediately withdrew her thoughts and put on a concerned expression, looking at her. “Mom, I’m here, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing, I was just afraid you were too tired sitting here,” Shen Airu explained. “You go rest too, I don’t need someone to watch me.”
Meng Yunlan also felt that sitting there was uncomfortable, so she pretended to agree. “Mom, then I’ll sit downstairs. Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay,” Shen Airu nodded gently.
Meng Yunlan got up and left the room. As soon as she closed the room door, she saw Meng Yunting striding up the steps.
“Brother, you’re here,” she called out in a sweet voice. “Mom just lay down, I’m so worried about her.”
Meng Yunting, having shed the listlessness and dejection of the past few days, looked radiant. His handsome eyes held a smile. “Lanlan, don’t worry, Mom will get better soon.”
“Really?” Meng Yunlan showed a joyful expression, her gaze full of anticipation. “Brother, have you thought of a way to make Mom feel better?”
“No,” Meng Yunting reached out and took her wrist, chuckling softly. “Come into the room, I’ll tell you and Mom this good news.”
“Good news?” A hint of doubt flashed in Meng Yunlan’s eyes. “What kind of good news?”
“You’ll know soon.” Meng Yunting knocked on Shen Airu’s door but received no response.
Inside the room, Shen Airu lay on the bed, weary. However, Meng Yunlan’s expression from earlier kept flashing in her mind. That gaze and demeanor were so unfamiliar that they made her panic.
She thought it was Meng Yunlan knocking at the door and decided to ignore it.
“Brother, Mom is probably asleep,” Meng Yunlan said, shaking the other’s arm, acting cute. “What’s the good news? Tell me first, okay?”
She had a faint sense of unease.
“Don’t be impatient,” Meng Yunting knocked on the door again and called out loudly to the inside, “Mom, it’s Yunting.”
Shen Airu vaguely heard her son’s voice, and only then did she collect her thoughts and call out, “Come in.”
Meng Yunlan’s eyes flickered slightly, and she murmured, “I thought Mom was asleep.”
“She has things on her mind, she probably can’t sleep,” Meng Yunting said as he opened the door.
