Chapter 216: Restoring Eyesight
Someone asked the boy, “Big Brother, my eyesight is bad and I’m nearsighted. I wear glasses now, can I restore my eyesight through cultivation?”
The boy said, “People have five senses and six consciousnesses. The five senses refer to form, sound, color, taste, and touch, which are the human body’s five sensory organs: vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
The six consciousnesses refer to eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness. Together with the six roots and six dusts, they are called the eighteen realms.
The six consciousnesses are the consciousnesses of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, respectively. It is said that based on the five faculties, one can perceive the five objects and thus have the five consciousnesses. Regarding the objects of the five faculties, discrimination arises, forming the sixth consciousness.
All of this is inseparable from the word ‘awareness’ (awareness), including the feelings in your thoughts. All human experiences are within this awareness.
Vision weakens because the awareness of sight weakens. Hearing weakens because the awareness of hearing weakens. Amplifying the needed awareness will restore it. Simple, isn’t it?”
“Holy cow, Big Brother, I don’t understand!”
“Hahaha, if you don’t understand, I can’t do anything about it.”
“Big Brother, is there a simpler method?”
“Then you should try training your vision. First, believe that you can absolutely get better. Then, every morning when you wake up, look at the sky, look at trees, look far, look near, look in between. Pull and release your pupils’ zoom back and forth, train it. Deterioration of eyesight is mostly due to habits. Your pupils have developed bad habits, and their flexibility is limited. If you work hard to change and cultivate this back, your eyesight will gradually return.
When I was in school back then, those who wore glasses were the ones who loved to study and always stared at the blackboard. I, however, always looked at the toys on the desk, then the blackboard, then at people playing soccer outside. Even back then, I knew how to protect my eyes. I don’t remember my homeroom teacher teaching me; I must have read it somewhere. This can train your pupils’ zoom and prevent nearsightedness. Conversely, if you are nearsighted, you can train it to recover.
Also, when you eat fish, eat its eyes. Be grateful for the fish’s help, thank it.
Fish eyes contain a relatively rich amount of Vitamin A and unsaturated fatty acids, which are important nutrients for the eyes. Vitamin A, in particular, has a certain antioxidant effect and is also one of the essential nutrients for the synthesis of visual cells in the retina. If there is excessive Vitamin A deficiency in the eyes, it can lead to corneal softening, night blindness, and other illnesses. Therefore, appropriately consuming fish eyes has certain benefits for the eyes in terms of nutrition. So far, no harmful effects of eating fish eyes on the human body have been found, as fish eyes do not contain any ingredients harmful to health. However, it is still recommended to consume them in moderation. You don’t need to deliberately buy a pile to eat; just remember to eat them when you eat fish. Even if they don’t taste good and are hard, just chew them and eat them. The prerequisite is to be grateful for the fish’s help, because you absorb its nourishment, and the nutrients become a part of you.”
“Okay, Big Brother, I remember.”
“Mmm, go try it. Persevere in training your eyesight, and it will always bring you surprises.”
“Big Brother, how do you train the ‘awareness’ in vision?”
“Still not done? Are you that greedy, Younger Brother?”
“Hehehe, no, Big Brother, I’m just curious and wanted to ask.”
“Alright, seeing as you’re polite, Big Brother will teach you another trick.”
“Focus your attention on your eyes and look far, then near, then far, then near again. After you see clearly, then change your gaze. Don’t rush to change; slowly, the speed of seeing clearly will become faster and faster.”
“Huh? What does this mean, Big Brother? Is this a type of awareness cultivation?”
“A minor technique. Take it and play with it. After playing with it for a while, your eyesight will improve.”
“Okay, Big Brother, thank you, Big Brother.”
“Pay attention to your mindset. A bad mindset affects the body. Do it with a clear and refreshed mind.”
“Understood, Big Brother.”
“Don’t endlessly eat fish eyes. Just eat them if they’re made at home; deliberately eating a whole meal is useless. Cultivation is primary, other things are supplementary.”
“Okay, thank you for your teaching, Big Brother. Salutations.”
“Hehehe, go practice. People as awesome as us can do anything. Remember that.”
“I remember, Big Brother, hehehe.”
“Good. Remember, our invincible Wuji Sword Sect knows a little bit of everything, wahahahaha.”
“Hahahaha, okay, Big Brother, I remember.”
“Mhmm, go play.”
“Big Brother, boundless blessings.”
“Boundless blessings.”
For him, this small matter was nothing; it was very simple. Awareness is the origin of everything. If a certain aspect is weak, it’s because the awareness in that area is weak. Cultivating and amplifying it will naturally restore it.
Some people can’t speak well but have good eyesight and hearing; some people can’t hear but have a good sense of smell.
This is all because one awareness is lacking, and the others have been amplified.
The mind also has awareness. Cultivating the mind means awakening the mind’s awareness and then using it. This awareness in the heart is higher dimension. Using awareness to observe one’s own heart and others is like higher dimension observing lower dimension.
How simple it is, wahahahaha.
Awareness has no discrimination towards things. Awareness is that naturally complete Sarira which is unborn, undying, neither impure nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing.
The emptiness of all phenomena is because awareness is formless. The true nature of all phenomena is because awareness exists, making them real.
Awareness is the emptiness in “form is not different from emptiness,” and form is the form in “emptiness is not different from form.”
With awareness, phenomena can manifest, and one can discriminate between good and bad, right and wrong, kind and evil, dirty and clean.
When nothing is happening, awareness remains there, unmoved. It only manifests when something occurs.
Therefore, it manifests without obstacles, achieving Nirvana beyond obstacles.
All cultivation, emptiness, selflessness, and so on, all cultivate this one thing!
When one cultivates oneself to the state of awareness, the ego weakens. One stands outside the ego and observes it, guiding and controlling the ego from the outside. It’s like playing a game and controlling a character.
You can control what this character thinks or doesn’t think, what emotions arise or don’t arise, making it completely controllable.
At this point, a person truly becomes their true self, which is like jumping outside the circle to observe oneself.
After jumping out, you will see the patterns of others. Just from a glance, you can see a person’s mood, their complexion, good or bad, and so on. This is just the inherent function of the state of awareness.
Simply put, awareness is constantly pure in heart, spotless, and absolute stillness allows one to perceive the patterns of all things.
Guiding one’s life with the state of awareness means that in this world, whatever I say exists, exists. If I say it doesn’t exist, it doesn’t exist, because changing my cognitive habits changes my perception of this world. If I can arbitrarily change my cognitive habits, then I can arbitrarily change my perception of this world.
This principle is incredibly simple, to the point of being super simple. Being able to control what you think or don’t think also controls your cognition. Being able to control what you think or don’t think controls your mood. Being able to control what you think or don’t think controls your discrimination of good and bad, right and wrong in people, matters, and things.
If I want to see the good, I can see the good. If I don’t want to see the good, I can choose not to see it.
This is the powerful state after controlling the laws of your own mind! Can you not be confident? Can you not feel invincible?
But don’t get carried away, hahaha. Be happy, but don’t get arrogant. If you get arrogant, your mind will wander, yahahahaha.
