Chapter 276: God Of Death, God Of Sleep
Hecate’s gentle and crisp voice finally brought Hemera back to consciousness.
In the long wait, she was truly distraught, one end tied to the Mother Goddess, the other tied to “that matter,” until finally, even she herself didn’t know what she was thinking.
Her thoughts had flown far away, almost scattered by the gale winds.
Hemera looked at this elegant and charming new sister, smiled slightly apologetically: “Dear Hecate, I’m very sorry. I was a bit absent-minded just now and didn’t hear what you said clearly.”
Hecate smiled faintly, unconcerned, and repeated: “Dear Hemera sister, I mean, I see you’re a bit distressed and seem somewhat gaunt. Are you too tired? Why not rest first?”
Hemera gently shook her head, smiling as she said: “Thank you, Hecate. I’m fine, just thinking about some things and got lost in thought.”
Hecate nodded gently, her smile warmer: “Good that you’re fine. But if you have something, sister, we’re family, so feel free to speak up.”
“Compared to you, sister, though my divine power is shallow, our authorities are different after all, so maybe I can help with some things.”
“Even if my ability is limited and I can’t help sister, isn’t there still our Mother Goddess? Things that can trouble the Mother Goddess should be few in the entire universe.”
“Ah, right.” Hecate seemed to suddenly remember something.
“Just now I saw that the Mother Goddess’s curtain has been withdrawn. It seems her emotions should have stabilized.”
“Earlier, I think I also saw the Mother Goddess’s divine light flash once, not sure where she went before, but she just returned to the divine palace.”
“But in any case, it’s a good thing that the Mother Goddess’s emotions have stabilized. Her unpredictable temper was truly terrifying.”
While Hecate said these words, her gaze never left Hemera, carefully observing every subtle change in her expression.
Her small hand tightly gripped the divine cup, fingertips unconsciously tracing the rim’s patterns, eyes carrying a cautious probing light.
Sure enough, she noticed Hemera clearly stunned for a moment upon hearing the last two sentences.
In those eyes that should be as bright as daylight, a trace of extremely obvious doubt flashed.
Immediately after, the depths of her eyes surged with an undisguisable anxiety and panic.
Hecate’s heart immediately became even more convinced of her bold guess.
‘It seems something unexpected happened in the middle. Hmm… let me confirm again.’
The Hemera as white as daylight was now somewhat unable to control her emotions, and she asked urgently: “The Mother Goddess… returned to the divine palace from elsewhere?”
Her voice still carried the gentle charm unique to the Goddess of Daylight, but now with obvious urgency.
Hecate nodded gently, pretending to casually add: “Yes, I don’t know where the Mother Goddess went either.”
Hemera immediately followed up: “Good sister, did you… see any other movement?”
Upon hearing this, Hecate pretended to lower her head in thought, as if making effort recalling.
After a few breaths, she replied in an uncertain tone softly: “I seem to have… seen a flash of electric light, but it really just flashed by, maybe I saw wrong.”
“Eh—” She seemed to suddenly react, pretending to be surprised as she covered her small mouth, “Could it be… the Great Father God came? But why did He come without stopping by to see me?”
As Hecate spoke, her beautiful eyebrows lightly furrowed, her face showing just the right touch of a young girl’s unhappiness.
However, Hemera’s expression became noticeably heavier after hearing this.
This bright goddess symbolizing daylight had her eye’s radiance dimmed somewhat, as if shrouded in mist.
She barely squeezed out a smile, softly saying to Hecate: “Dear Hecate, I… I suddenly remembered, there’s something very important that requires me to go to the Mother Goddess right away.”
“Thank you for your hospitality. You and the younger brother and sisters continue playing, I’ll leave first.”
Hecate nodded gently, her smile as bright as a rising silver moon: “Okay, sister’s matters are naturally more important. Sister, go ahead, and when you’re done, please come back to keep me company.”
Hemera smiled and nodded, no longer minding anything else, hurriedly turning into a formless clear cold white light, speeding toward the direction of the divine palace of night.
Hecate stood in place, gazing remotely at that departing white light, the smile at her lips becoming increasingly profound.
She was very expectant of a good outcome.
Because, if Hemera sister had an opportunity… then she herself…
At that moment, an extremely alluring female goddess’s coquettish call filled with joyful delight came from not far away:
“Hecate! Come quick, come! Tyche that little sly one is cheating again! Come quick, use your moonlight to shine on her, don’t let her move around!”
The voice was as pleasant as a silver bell, floating above the netherworld, carrying irrepressible joy.
This was clearly a goddess extremely charming and alluring just from her voice.
The speaker was none other than Philotes.
This goddess forever pursuing “great harmony of joy” was at the moment playing happily with her sisters.
Hecate gave her a deep look, thinking to herself: This good sister’s authority should be used when needed…
“Coming, coming—” She casually replied, then also smiled and hurried over.
Philotes merely glanced casually at Hecate, and immediately her eyes flashed with divine light.
Because she clearly saw that something new, shiny, full of “desire” and “ambition,” was quietly budding in this sister’s divinity.
‘Tsk, another one.’ Philotes secretly laughed in her heart, ‘Sister is just like the others now.’
With such divine authority, few could hide from her.
But she was only delighted to see it, with no interest in meddling.
Her attitude toward things was always simple: for her, joy, love, and happiness were the most important.
As for what kind of love, or why the happiness? That didn’t matter at all.
She never cared about the minutiae of relationships, only liked kneading everything into liveliness and pleasure.
Being a god, after all, joy was the most important.
On the other side, God of Death Thanatos and God of Sleep Hypnos, in the Underworld Palace, did not see the King of the Underworld.
The reason among them, they naturally knew.
Coming early was purely because they were sensible!
Until the surging night curtain covering the entire netherworld slowly dissipated, and the netherworld recovered its deathly eternal tranquility, did they finally see King of the Underworld Hades return from outside the hall.
The God of Death and God of Sleep were not in the form of children.
The solemnity of death and tranquility of sleep predestined their forms.
“Death” was the most serious matter in the world.
Thus, God of Death Thanatos was a mature male god with a resolute face and solemn expression.
His figure was like a sharp sword unsheathed, straight and sharp, with black hair and black eyes, gaze stern and cold, as if containing eternal winter night.
But in that endless coldness depths, there was unexpectedly a trace of gentleness belonging to “ultimate release.”
And his younger brother God of Sleep Hypnos was completely his opposite.
The God of Sleep was a handsome youth with a lazy relaxed face, full of laxity.
He seemed boneless, always leaning obliquely, skin pale almost transparent, handsome face forever carrying a faint, inscrutable smile.
Quite possessing that dashing romantic quality that could make countless goddesses fall, truly like his father god.
Although he always had sleepy eyes, with a hazy sense of never fully awake.
As soon as they saw that pure “darkness” surging into the hall, both immediately became serious, even Hypnos rarely perking up at once.
Hades returned again, the Lord of the Underworld’s steps carrying steady kingly majesty, and behind him followed another god.
It was the goddess of violent death—Keres, the sister of the God of Death and God of Sleep.
A cold and glamorous goddess with a gaunt tall figure, clad in a blood-colored robe, black wings on her back.
The two brothers hurriedly stepped forward, bowing deeply to that figure, proclaiming loudly: “Thanatos( Hypnos), pay respects to the noble, illustrious, great Your Excellency King of the Underworld!”
Then looking to their sister, nodding in salute: “Keres sister, may you be well.”
Hades saw them and smiled slightly, appearing very affectionate, instantly softening the atmosphere.
Keres also smiled and nodded in response, obediently following behind Hades.
Hades walked toward his divine seat while casually beckoning.
With his action, two obsidian divine seats appeared in the hall out of thin air.
He signaled for them to sit.
They bowed slightly again, offering the highest respect, before sitting properly.
Hades looked at them, extremely satisfied in his heart.
Now, the laws of the netherworld had finally filled that most crucial link in general.
A netherworld without “death” laws, just thinking about it felt too humorous.
He nodded and said: “I already know everything, no need for more words.”
“Since you are children of Zeus, you are naturally also my children. The netherworld is your eternal home. At home, no need to be so restrained.”
“Of course, on Olympus, divine palaces will also be prepared for you. If you get tired of the netherworld and want to appreciate Olympus’s scenery, you can anytime.”
The two gods’ faces lit up with joy, rising together, bowing again in respect, proclaiming loudly: “Respected Your Excellency, thank you for your bounty!”
Hades beckoned again for them to sit, then continued: “You haven’t properly reunited with your Mother Goddess yet. Though improper, you can only be wronged a bit first.”
“Your Mother Goddess… um… she’s not very convenient right now. She still has some other matters to attend to.”
