Chapter 135:
Meng Shuyou sensed a gaze falling on her and subconsciously looked up, just in time to meet his eyes.
The other was also an Asian face, with handsome features and a gentle, elegant temperament, completely opposite to Pei Yuzhou; the first impression he gave was that of a modest gentleman.
His gaze wouldn’t make anyone feel offended.
The man smiled warmly and spoke first, “Am I disturbing you?”
As soon as Eva heard his voice, she called out loudly, “Brother! Have you changed your clothes?”
“Yeah, I have spare clothes in the car.” The man stepped inside and asked her, “Were you scared just now?”
Eva shook her head with a smile, “I’m not afraid now that you’re here.”
“Don’t walk too far alone in the future. Ask your teacher for help if there’s anything.”
“Yeah, got it.”
The man’s gaze returned to Meng Shuyou’s face, and he greeted her proactively, “Hello, I’m Dylan.”
Meng Shuyou nodded, “I’m Elara.”
“Are you an exchange student?” he guessed.
“Yeah.”
“May I ask which country you’re from?”
“China.”
As soon as Meng Shuyou finished speaking, the man immediately switched to fluent Chinese and extended his hand to her, “Let’s get to know each other again: Qi Mingxu, the ‘ming’ from dawn and the ‘xu’ from mild.”
Surprise flashed in her eyes, and she extended her right hand to shake his, “You’re Chinese too.”
“Yeah.” Qi Mingxu just touched lightly and withdrew his hand, maintaining just the right etiquette and measure, with a slight curve at the corner of his lips, “What a coincidence. I didn’t expect that either. No wonder you feel familiar; turns out we’re compatriots.”
Meng Shuyou smiled lightly, “I’m Meng Shuyou, the ‘shu’ from books and the ‘yao’ from graceful.”
Qi Mingxu praised, “Nice name.”
Meng Shuyou returned the compliment, “Yours isn’t bad either.”
Eva listened to them speaking a language she completely didn’t understand, utterly confused, “What are you talking about?”
“Just chatting.” Qi Mingxu switched back to English, “What were you drawing just now?”
Eva picked up the drawing paper to show him, “Older Sister Elara is teaching me to draw a kitten!”
Qi Mingxu didn’t stint on praise, “It looks great. This kitten is as cute as you.”
Eva was a bit shy, a blush floating across her cheeks, her eyelashes fluttering, “Really?”
Qi Mingxu crouched down halfway, “Would I lie to you?”
Eva grinned, “Older Sister Elara taught me stroke by stroke. She’s really good.”
“Indeed.” He agreed.
Meng Shuyou noticed he was very good at coaxing kids, his words and actions exuding warmth and elegance everywhere, easily closing the distance with people.
By this time the hot water was ready. She took a cup to pour water, mixed it to a suitable temperature, made the cold medicine, and handed it over, “Eva, drink the cold medicine first.”
Eva took the cup and thanked her, “Okay, thanks, Older Sister.”
Qi Mingxu didn’t stay long; he got a telephone call and had to leave first. Before leaving, he suggested to Meng Shuyou adding contact info, “I know some artist friends. Maybe there’s an opportunity for everyone to get together and exchange ideas.”
Meng Shuyou hesitated at that moment.
Pei Yuzhou didn’t like her having too much contact with the opposite sex. With his possessiveness, he’d be angry if he knew.
Seeing her hesitation, Qi Mingxu’s eye corner curved slightly, “Are you afraid I’m a scammer?”
He assured, “Don’t worry, Chinese people don’t scam Chinese people.”
Meng Shuyou was immediately amused.
Qi Mingxu continued, “I just feel we have a connection. In a foreign land, make one more friend.”
Meng Shuyou took out her mobile phone from her pocket, “What kind of good deed-doer scammer is there?”
Nothing about him looked like a scammer.
“Who knows.” Qi Mingxu joked, opened WeChat to scan her, “Contact me when you have time.”
Meng Shuyou approved the friend request, “Okay, thanks.”
“No need to be polite. I’ll head out first.” Qi Mingxu put away his mobile phone, “Eva, wait till next time I have time to visit you.”
Eva waved her hand, “Brother, go ahead with your business.”
Qi Mingxu left with big strides.
Meng Shuyou lowered her eyes to stare at the screen, her thoughts stagnant.
She didn’t know from when, but even making friends subconsciously considered Pei Yuzhou’s feelings first.
Thinking about it, she shouldn’t give up her normal social life for anyone. She hadn’t done anything to wrong Pei Yuzhou, so why couldn’t she make friends with the opposite sex?
