Chapter 136:
–
After returning from the Welfare Home, Meng Shuyou organized the photos taken today, assigned them to team members, with each person responsible for painting one illustration, and finally integrated into one large poster.
She spent all her spare time this week on these, designing the advertisement layout and adding charity promotion slogans.
As team leader, the tasks were relatively heavy, keeping her extremely busy.
In the group chat, besides discussing illustration design drafts, someone was probing gossip. A girl asked: “Wasn’t there a handsome guy at the Welfare Home that day? @Elara, do you know him?”
Meng Shuyou was still holding her iPad, focused on designing fonts. Hearing her mobile phone vibrate, she put down her pen and glanced at it, replying: “We chatted.”
The girl asked again: “Was he there to volunteer too?”
Meng Shuyou: “He has made donations to the Welfare Home.”
The girl: “Young and promising, handsome and kind, simply the ideal man.”
Another boy guessed: “With such good conditions, he’s probably married or has a girlfriend.”
The girl: “@Elara, is he single?”
Meng Shuyou: “I’m not sure.”
She wasn’t concerned about that anyway, and wouldn’t ask such an intrusive question.
Her mobile phone rang just then, with caller ID automatically popping up: Mister Pei.
Meng Shuyou pressed the answer button.
A familiar lazy low voice came through, “What are you doing?”
Meng Shuyou leaned back, lazily reclining against the chair back, “A charity event organized by the school. A few days ago, they had us go to the Welfare Home to see the children, then design an illustration poster.”
“Still painting so late?”
“Wanted to finish early, didn’t notice the time.”
Before she knew it, it was nine-thirty.
“Aren’t you coming over on Saturday? Have you booked the flight ticket?” Pei Yuzhou asked.
“Mm.”
“Send me the flight information, and I’ll have the driver pick you up at the airport then.”
“Okay.” Meng Shuyou stretched lazily and sprawled on the desk, “But I’m going with Winnie and Mia and the others. We’ve booked a hotel.”
They had planned to see the exhibition and play in New York for two days.
Pei Yuzhou furrowed his brow slightly, “Not spending time with me?”
“We agreed I’d accompany them.” Meng Shuyou paused, then added in a low voice, “Next time with you.”
“Alright.”
–
The poster first draft was completed by Friday.
Six illustration segments in total, recording the daily life of teachers at the Welfare Home teaching the children.
Next to them were two advertisement slogans—
“We are not afraid of darkness, but more afraid of being forgotten by the world.”
“Care for the weak, ignite hope.”
This visit to the Welfare Home had indeed given Meng Shuyou quite a few inspirations.
She still remembered that the reason she chose to study painting was in her sophomore year of high school, when she saw a group of volunteers painting on the street to remind everyone not to occupy the tactile paving. At that time, she thought this was probably the meaning of painting, using color to convey warmth.
A sentence she had once read in a book—I want to paint windows all over the earth, so that all eyes accustomed to darkness can get used to light.
This was perhaps the reason she had always persisted in painting, hoping that one day she could also do her best to leave something for the world.
Madam Lena was very satisfied after seeing the first draft, “Elara, I knew there’d be no problem giving it to you.”
Meng Shuyou didn’t take credit, “It’s the result of everyone’s joint effort.”
“You came up with the charity slogans, right?”
“Mm.”
“Really great, very easy to resonate with.” Madam Lena joked: “Maybe you should apply to an advertising company.”
Meng Shuyou shook her head with a smile, “I don’t have that strength yet.”
Madam Lena got back to business, “The first draft has no issues. Lighten the background color a bit more, deepen the font color to make it more eye-catching, and give it to me next week.”
“Okay.”
