Chapter 24: Jin Huang, The Protagonist-like Figure
The Grass-type Energy within Tropius began to gather, and a large number of green leaves, enveloped by the energy, swiftly flew out and embedded themselves into a Big Tree not far away.
“Leaf Storm? No… that looked more like Magical Leaf?”
Lu Li happily examined the damage Tropius had inflicted on the Big Tree.
Magical Leaf is a quite good Skill; this Skill comes with a tracking effect. Normally, Magical Leaf is very difficult to dodge unless blocked.
In the Real World, not all Pokémon know the Skill Protect, nor do all Pokémon know defensive-type Skills.
“That’s great! Tropius, you truly are a Genius.”
Lu Li did not hold back his praise at all.
Tropius narrowed its eyes and let out a joyful cry. What in the world is more wonderful than receiving praise from its Trainer?
After resting with Tropius in the Small Grove for a while, Lu Li brought Tropius back to the Stadium.
As soon as he entered the Stadium, Lu Li saw Jin Huang, whose Facial Expression was a bit dark, walking out.
Seeing Jin Huang with a less than pleasant expression, Lu Li asked with Concern, “What’s wrong?”
“Don’t even mention it!” Jin Huang sighed in frustration.
Jin Huang’s follower explained, “Jin Huang is just feeling upset because his next Match opponent is Sandshrew.”
Lu Li: “…”
Lu Li cast a look of Pity at Jin Huang; his Luck was truly a bit outrageous.
If we exclude it being man-made, then Jin Huang’s Luck is indeed hard to describe, but if it was man-made, how deep must the grudge be?
Sensing the Pity in Lu Li’s eyes, Jin Huang gloated back, “Don’t get happy too soon. I checked for you; your next opponent is Delibird.”
“Delibird? That’s fine, at least it’s not a 4x weakness,” Lu Li said with relief.
Jin Huang: “…”
Hearing this, Jin Huang’s face turned green because he was the one with the 4x weakness!
Jin Huang left, clearly to go ask his Mother for information.
No matter how slow Jin Huang’s Reaction was, he should have noticed something was off with the school’s matching mechanism by now.
How could one person encounter a 4x weakness twice in a row? After all, the total number of Trainers participating from First High School didn’t even exceed 200.
Watching Jin Huang’s retreating back, Lu Li murmured, “There’s definitely something fishy going on.”
Not long after, Jin Huang returned. Unlike his earlier angry and dejected departure, Jin Huang was now full of fighting spirit.
“You seem quite happy?” Lu Li teased the spirited Jin Huang.
Listening to Lu Li’s teasing, Jin Huang looked at Lu Li with utmost sincerity and said, “Lu Li, thank you!”
Lu Li: “???”
Lu Li stared at Jin Huang, completely Confused.
Glancing around cautiously and finding no one paying attention, Jin Huang whispered, “This Match is very special, you must perform well. I’ll tell you the specifics after the Match.”
Lu Li listened and nodded thoughtfully.
Lu Li found Jin Huang’s reaction quite interesting.
“Perform well, is some important figure visiting the school?” Lu Li wondered.
Unlike Jin Huang, Lu Li, having lived two lives, immediately guessed the Truth of the matter.
After another round of Matches, the next phase was to determine the Top Ten.
Jin Huang was the first to enter the Field.
Having his Double-Edge exposed in advance, the Sandshrew Trainer was well-prepared against Corphish’s Double-Edge, so Jin Huang fought with great difficulty.
After Double-Edge was dodged, Corphish, just as it stopped, was hit by Sandshrew’s Sand Attack.
Facing the injured Corphish, Jin Huang directly commanded, “Corphish, endure it, then charge forward and use Headbutt!”
“Rock Slide!”
The Sandshrew Trainer commanded assertively.
Jin Huang also shouted, “Corphish, Superpower!”
“Superpower?”
Lu Li looked at Jin Huang and Corphish on the Field in surprise.
Outrageous!
Are all people with colors in their names protagonists?
In the Game, Green and Red are one thing, but in the Real World, are you, Jin Huang, also a protagonist?
Superpower is a game-changing Skill!
I could tolerate your Corphish inheriting Double-Edge, Jin Huang, but now you’re telling me it also inherited Superpower?
The Sandshrew Trainer, who knew what Superpower was, looked at the Corphish in the arena in utter shock.
Rock Slide hit Corphish, but Corphish’s Superpower also hit Sandshrew. What was even more critical was that Corphish’s Headbutt also landed on Sandshrew.
In this round, Jin Huang and Corphish narrowly secured the Victory.
Up to this point, Corphish has demonstrated two Inherited Skills: Double-Edge and Superpower. Both these Skills either have immense Power or are extremely functional.
Inside the Principal’s Office.
Yu Zhonggang, watching Jin Huang narrowly win the Match, sincerely praised, “This Corphish is unexpectedly outstanding, and so is its Trainer; his timing and grasp of the situation were quite good.”
The Principal seized the opportunity to ask, “I heard that Master Yu, your ace Pokémon is Aggron. Are you interested in taking Corphish’s Trainer as an Apprentice?”
After a moment of feigned silence, Yu Zhonggang nodded and said, “I’ll ask the child myself after the Match.”
Having inherited Double-Edge and Superpower, and with the Pokémon Trainer’s excellent command talent, such a person is undoubtedly excellent.
Seeing that Yu Zhonggang had agreed, a hint of joy flashed across the Principal’s Facial Expression.
This was all Merit!
“Things actually worked out; Cui Lian and my efforts were not in vain,” the Principal thought gleefully.
He had wanted to refuse that outrageous matching mechanism back then, as it was too unfair to Jin Huang.
But under Jin Cui Lian’s plea, and since Jin Cui Lian was Jin Huang’s Mother, he reluctantly agreed.
Now it seemed their risky endeavor was worth it; Jin Huang had not failed his mother’s expectations.
After winning the Match, Corphish collapsed on the Field, exhausted. However, since Sandshrew lost consciousness first, Jin Huang was the undisputed winner.
“Truly remarkable, one must not underestimate the heroes of the world!” Lu Li sincerely marveled inwardly.
Facing such a huge Attribute disadvantage, Jin Huang’s Victory was not solely due to Corphish’s Merit; Jin Huang’s excellent command was also instrumental.
Lu Li’s anticipation for his Match against Jin Huang grew. He had initially thought today’s Matches would be a playful romp among children, but Jin Huang had given him such a great surprise.
Jin Huang did not savor the joy of Victory. Instead, he nervously recalled Corphish with its Poké Ball and then hurried towards the school’s Medical Room.
After Jin Huang left the Field, it was his turn next.
“Delibird!”
Lu Li, sighing inwardly, arrived at Battlefield No. 6.
The Jiuzhou Alliance had once published a Strategy Guide titled “Rookie Trainer’s Starter Pokémon Choice,” which directly warned everyone that it was not recommended for Rookie Trainers to choose Pokémon of the Dark, Ghost, or Poison Attributes.
This was not to say that Pokémon of these Attributes were inherently wicked, but rather that these Attributes were difficult for Rookie Trainers to Grasp.
