Chapter 303: Perhaps She Begins To Understand
“It’s inconvenient,” Bai Ying grumbled, “We’re in our pajamas.”
Bai Ying dressed conservatively, her pajamas covering her tightly, but the cotton fabric wrinkled easily, revealing her daughter’s delicate state late at night.
Lian Cheng also refused, “Bai Ying is a doctor. She’s amazing, you can rest assured.”
Feng Shien was a gentleman of culture and etiquette. Lian Cheng was interested, Lin Xianzi allowed it, and under mutual affection, they met late at night, entered the room, and it happened naturally.
It’s different with Bai Ying present and her clothes disheveled.
“My phone is always on. If the pain is severe, call me.”
He had a polite demeanor, never putting a woman in an awkward dilemma; Lian Cheng agreed.
Feng Shien took a step and left the corridor.
A voice suddenly came from behind the door again, the distance unchanged, the tone soft, with a slight lift at the end, “Shi En.”
Feng Shien stopped, “Hmm?”
“Goodnight.”
The corridor’s yellow light reflected in Feng Shien’s pupils, clear, bright amber.
He also smiled, the unavoidable lines at the corners of his eyes for a man over thirty, “Duole, goodnight.”
Bai Ying regretted it deeply, “I lost, dogs aren’t allowed in and it’s even more intimate, what a scheming bitch.”
Lian Cheng tugged her arm, “That’s too much.”
“You’re protecting him.”
Lian Cheng laughed heartily.
She had been drenched in cold sweat earlier, her hair damp, soaking her pillow.
Bai Ying’s face was pressed against it, smelling faintly of warm camellia, the fabric still trembling inch by inch. Lian Cheng was so happy and delighted, she hesitated whether to mention Liang Chaosu’s whereabouts.
For these three days, Lin Xianzi confirmed that Liang Chaosu had not come to Singapore and announced that he had finally listened to reason and given up.
But at the airport that day, a stretcher passed by the doorway, with stab wounds and gunshot wounds, vomiting blood and unconscious. Although he was transferred to another hospital, he might not have woken up.
Bai Ying always felt that Lian Cheng had concerns, but these concerns were inappropriate, violated her beliefs, were mistakes, were twisted, and weighed heavily, unspeakable.
“Manager Lin has made such significant progress, and you’re letting Feng Shien accompany you to deal with the many fence-sitters from the Mo family tomorrow?”
Lian Cheng clenched her teeth, sharp pain from the bone marrow, like ants emerging from their nest again to forage, corrosive acid dripping onto her nerves, startling her intermittently.
She resisted with all her might, her reply distracted, “Mm.”
“Are you really planning to officially date him?”
Lian Cheng couldn’t speak and didn’t answer.
In the darkness, Bai Ying’s mind was focused elsewhere, not noticing, “Liang Chaosu didn’t come to Singapore. If he truly gives up, will you still pursue a relationship with Feng Shien?”
A groan escaped Lian Cheng’s teeth. Bai Ying, facing her, heard it clearly and immediately held her hand. Her palm was cold, sticky, and trembled imperceptibly.
“It hurts again?”
In the dimness, Lian Cheng bit her lip, her voice faint, “Regarding me and Shi En, I can’t deny that this was part of the reason before.”
Bai Ying was annoyed, hugged her tightly, and patted her back, “Let’s not discuss this topic. Don’t talk.”
Lian Cheng asked, “You went to intercept Feng Shien tonight, did you get news about Liang Chaosu?”
Bai Ying’s hand paused.
Lian Cheng persisted.
“I did make some discoveries. I didn’t want you to force yourself into a relationship for his sake after he left.”
“How is he.”
“He’s likely returned to the country, staying out of sight. I estimate he’s planning a counterattack against Liang Zhengping.”
Lian Cheng’s limbs relaxed involuntarily. “He’s awake?”
Bai Ying was very surprised, “That’s your focus?”
Lian Cheng was bewildered, “Otherwise?”
Bai Ying was dazed. She thought it was a great relief, that the beast that had been chasing her had given up its hunting desire, and she was fortunate to have escaped.
Or perhaps, the suffocating, dark shadow that had enveloped her had finally dissipated at this moment, and she didn’t have to be constantly wary and tense. She shouted that she could finally sleep soundly from now on.
“You’ve been preoccupied these past few days, were you worried about his health?”
The tone was too strange, Lian Cheng retorted, “Shouldn’t I be worried?”
Liang Chaosu gambled his life in Iceland and didn’t die, was shot in Hong Kong and didn’t die. Such a powerful and tenacious life force, if he died in an abandoned room, died under venomous words.
Lian Cheng didn’t know how she would feel. After she had decided to end it, had it become a form of mental attack, a torture that led to his death?
Were these words more vicious and fatal than any knife or gun?
Had she never said these things before?
She was far more ruthless on Iceland than she was now. Liang Chaosu didn’t seem injured at the time. Could it be that he endured it in silence, having grown accustomed to it long ago?
It proved that his feelings, from the beginning, were full and clear, not something added later. Therefore, he wasn’t regretting it now, but was originally like this. It was just that her previous resistance had been intense, and circumstances had forced him.
Furthermore, it proved that the persecution and pain were mutual, proving the answer he wanted her to find on Iceland.
The loss year after year, the gloom, was a hundred percent true, and it was for her.
It was her constant lack of understanding that had molded the normal, sincere, perfect Liang Chaosu of twenty-four into the stern and capricious devil of twenty-nine.
But he was so intelligent and calm, able to see the smallest details. For over a thousand nights, he had painstakingly fortified his wings, distracted by the need to prevent leaks, thus neglecting this suffocating, dangerous process of self-degeneration, and didn’t notice.
Or, was it because he was fully aware throughout the entire process?
As Su Chenghuai said, his heart was beyond his control, with no way to struggle or save himself. Clearly seeing his own deformation, every second, every minute of drowning, was a process more despairing than before.
No one saw him, no one saved him.
But.
Liang Chaosu had woken up and returned to the country.
Lian Cheng felt a surge of happiness, overcoming the intermittent pain, “Did you proactively ask Xiao Da?”
Mentioning Xiao Da, Bai Ying became annoyed and deliberately acted nonchalant.
“Yes, Liang Chaosu has recovered. I was afraid you would gain psychological burden from weight gain and affect your condition. Xiao Da was sensible and didn’t misunderstand that I still liked him.”
Lian Cheng was touched, “Thank you, darling~”
The next day.
From her early training in worldly wisdom, Bai Ying was not the type of strong woman; her vision was high and her judgment accurate.
Early in the morning, before Lin Xianzi returned, the living room was already full of people.
Lian Cheng had stayed up all night. As she went downstairs, her vision blurred, and she unexpectedly saw Gu Xingyuan in the crowd.
He looked more spirited than in Qingxi Valley, wearing the white suit from their first meeting, his shirt collar unbuttoned, leaning casually against the sofa, his legs crossed, revealing the red sole of his leather shoes, exuding a rakish and dashing charm.
Feng Shien followed a step behind her, descending the stairs, and asked the butler, “Why is he here?”
“This Mr. Gu is related to Gu Zhoushan, but their relationship is adversarial. He’s here for the family shares under Gu Zhoushan’s name, saying he can help Manager Lin pry open Gu Zhoushan’s mouth.”
Feng Shien turned back and took Lian Cheng’s hand. Her palm was always cool, and over time, Feng Shien had grown accustomed to it. He held it with a sense of enclosure, and under everyone’s gaze, it felt like a declared intimacy.
Gu Xingyuan raised the corner of his eye, a deep smile on his face.
“Don’t overthink it.” Feng Shien also liked to wear light colors, off-white, light blue. After coming to Singapore, perhaps to complement her, Lian Cheng wore bright clothes, while he became steady and profound.
Dark gray, dark brown, dark blue. The tailoring was not slim-fit, the cut was crisp, the shoulders were shoulders, the hips were hips, making him appear more mature, tall, and stern above his gentle demeanor, with a solemn majesty.
The man was handsome and likable. Mature and steady, yet possessed a sense of security and reliability.
“We came to Europe. The Gu Corporation has already dissolved its cooperation with the Liang Corporation. Gu Xingyuan has returned to Dian Province and is unrelated to that person.”
