Chapter 243: The Second Squad Leader’s Heart Is Full Of Bitterness
“Yo! Isn’t this Second Brother? How did you end up tied up like this?”
The Second Squad Leader, who was suffering terribly from mosquito harassment, heard someone coming. He had no time to worry about being teased. Right now, he just wanted someone to come over and quickly untie him.
The mosquitoes in the forest have bites that are too venomous. One bite and a bump swells up immediately, unbearably itchy.
The tragic part was that he was tied up and couldn’t move, unable to scratch even if he wanted to. What difference did it make from being tortured?
Now, after finally waiting for someone to arrive, the Second Squad Leader felt his mood surging with excitement at this moment!
As long as the damn rope on him could be untied, let alone teasing, he could endure even more excessive things.
“Brother, which squad are you from? After this is over, I’ll treat you to a meal!”
The Second Squad Leader looked at the two blurry-faced Blue Team members in front of him and felt a familiar sensation welling up. He always felt these two people looked familiar.
Thinking that they were all from Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company and it was normal to look familiar, he didn’t think too much about it. He urged them verbally to hurry up and untie him because his whole body was itching unbearably.
Even in this state, the Second Squad Leader didn’t forget to say some nice words to the two people in front of him. It seemed the person who could stand up to the new Company Commander had some real skills.
“You’re asking about us two?”
Lao Pao pointed at his own face with a smile, looking at the Second Squad Leader. Clearly, the other hadn’t recognized him and Xiao Zhuang yet, still looking expectant, hoping he would untie the rope.
Seeing Lao Pao and Xiao Zhuang’s extremely strange expressions, the Second Squad Leader’s heart sank. These two in front of him wouldn’t be Red Team, would they?
The more he thought, the more it made sense. The Second Squad Leader looked at Lao Pao and then at Xiao Zhuang standing beside him: “You haven’t said which squad’s soldiers you are. If you don’t say, I won’t know how to find you to treat you to a meal later.”
The Second Squad Leader, harboring a fluke mentality, asked about their backgrounds nonchalantly. Although he often bullied new recruits, he was generous and righteous, and most people in the company were familiar with him.
As long as he knew the origins of these two in front of him, their identities would naturally be clear as day to him.
“First Squad.”
Lao Pao only mentioned his own squad and not Xiao Zhuang’s.
First Squad?
The Second Squad Leader pondered. This person in front of him did look familiar, but he hadn’t seen him in First Squad.
Could he be a new recruit this year? But no new recruits were assigned to First Squad this year. What was this damn familiar feeling about?
By moonlight, the Second Squad Leader strained to lift his head and carefully examine the highly familiar face in front of him.
Why did this face look a bit like Lao Pao?
At this thought, the Second Squad Leader seemed to flip some switch.
His eyes were full of joy, but that joyful expression disappeared from his eyes in a moment, replaced by bitterness.
He had thought the ones coming were his own people, but in the end, it was still Wolf Fang people who arrived.
The current Lao Pao was no longer one of their Night Tiger people. He had soared up the branch to become a phoenix, a Special Forces with a black beret.
Seeing Second Brother’s expression change back and forth in just a few seconds, Lao Pao knew he had guessed their identities, although he hadn’t hidden it from the start.
“Guessed it? I say, Second Brother, how did you get so slow after a year apart? I practically spelled the answer out for you just now.” Lao Pao said with a sly grin.
But talk was talk; he didn’t help untie the Second Squad Leader’s bindings. And after guessing the visitor was Lao Pao, the Second Squad Leader didn’t mention being untied either.
“The one behind you is Xiao Zhuang, right?”
The Second Squad Leader’s tone was certain. Xiao Zhuang had spent some time in Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company after all, and their squads’ dormitories were next to each other, so they saw each other every day.
“Squad Leader, long time no see.”
Xiao Zhuang stepped forward to greet the Second Squad Leader, but he wasn’t in the mood to chat, vigilantly scanning the surroundings.
He and Lao Pao were still in the Blue Team’s encirclement. Who knew when a group of Blue Team people might suddenly appear nearby with guns and gun them down.
Seeing Xiao Zhuang not responding to him, the Second Squad Leader wasn’t angry.
It was easy to understand. Just put yourself in their shoes—they were still in the Blue Team’s encirclement, surrounded by danger.
If Xiao Zhuang didn’t act vigilant, the Second Squad Leader would suspect if he had returned everything he learned in the company.
“Second Brother, what’s the deal with you and this young soldier next to you? Tell us.”
Lao Pao plopped down in front of the Second Squad Leader to swat mosquitoes for him. That attentiveness gave Xiao Zhuang goosebumps all over.
Having known him for so long, when had he ever seen Lao Pao fawn over someone else? Seeing it suddenly was quite unaccustomed.
If there had been enough water on hand, Xiao Zhuang would have washed his eyes out long ago.
At this point, it wasn’t just Xiao Zhuang getting goosebumps. In fact, all four people present felt uncomfortable both physically and mentally.
“Stop disgusting me here. You, Lao Pao, are not the type to bow down to others!”
The Second Squad Leader probably couldn’t stand Lao Pao’s assault anymore. He rolled his eyes and headbutted Lao Pao’s chest, knocking him away.
Right now, he just wanted Lao Pao to stay farther away from him.
“Then hurry up and tell me who did this to you two.” Lao Pao said, sitting up from the ground.
Face could be settled later, but comrades’ whereabouts couldn’t be delayed.
Although they had broken out separately, they still needed to gather news on comrades—it might come in handy later.
Moreover, he hadn’t received any news from A Group. Now, running into this unlucky guy Second Brother, he might get some useful intelligence.
“Can’t say. If I did, I’d be a traitor!”
The Second Squad Leader shook his head like a rattle-drum, clearly not planning to tell Lao Pao about his encounter.
Publicly, not telling Lao Pao could still cause some trouble for them; privately, he had been taken down by those Red Team guys in one encounter—could he tell that to Lao Pao? Didn’t he want any face?
“How would that make you a traitor? Look, this isn’t important intelligence anyway; it doesn’t involve Blue Team’s force deployments.”
Lao Pao, like an experienced salesman, reasoned with the Second Squad Leader, appealing to emotion and logic to brainwash him.
“Still not.
Lao Pao, don’t waste your effort. Our positions are different now. Anything you want, whether it’s useful to me or not, I just won’t let you get it.” The Second Squad Leader said.
“Fine, Second Brother, you win!
You’re something!”
This Second Brother was like a turtle eating a scale weight—dead set. It pissed off Lao Pao so much that he gave him a thumbs-up.
If not for their past working together, would he be this patient? Not beating him was already good.
“Of course, we’re Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company people—one word: tough!” The Second Squad Leader raised his head. Mentioning “Night Tiger” changed his entire mental state.
But what he didn’t see was that Lao Pao and Xiao Zhuang’s faces had turned blacker than the bottom of a pot, as if implying who wasn’t a Night Tiger soldier.
They came from Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company too, Miao Lian’s soldiers!
But what did it mean to keep bringing it up repeatedly? Mocking them?
“Second Brother, one sentence: will you say it or not!”
Lao Pao was quite pissed off by the Second Squad Leader, his tone dropping several degrees.
Each word seemed squeezed out from his throat, full of power.
“We’re done for!”
This was the Second Squad Leader’s first thought after seeing Lao Pao’s face change.
“Looks like I went too far and pissed him off.”
This was his second thought.
As a veteran soldier, how could the Second Squad Leader not know the consequences of repeatedly mentioning the old unit in front of these two?
He hadn’t expected their reaction to be so intense. Could it be that tonight, besides being tied up by Wolf Fang people, he also had to take a beating?
To avoid leaking intelligence to Lao Pao, the Second Squad Leader was going all out.
