Chapter 180: Market Day
Yun Jiao rolled around in bed a few times, not wanting to get up.
She thought that if no one knocked and she didn’t go out, they might think she was asleep and leave without knocking.
Yun Jiao’s little hands pawed at the covers, revealing the top of her fluffy head above her eyes.
“Knock, knock…”
Alright, she thought wrong.
Unwillingly, she got up, pulled back the covers a bit, and got out of bed to put on her slippers.
“Jiaojiao, Jiaojiao, are you asleep?”
A voice from outside the door, Yun Xiao Wu’s, whispered, his movements filled with stealth.
Yun Jiao opened the door, and a group of people immediately poured into her room.
Yun Jiao: ???
What is this?
“Jiaojiao, there’s thunder outside.”
Yun Jiao glanced out the window. In the black night sky, rolling lightning instantly illuminated that part of the sky.
Following that was a series of rumbling thunder.
And the whistling wind that sounded like ghosts crying.
“I know.”
Isn’t that obvious?
Yun Jiao looked at them with her big, bright eyes.
Her face was filled with the question, “So, what are you guys here for?”
Yun Xiao Wu and the others grinned slyly, “We were afraid you’d be scared, so we came to keep you company.”
Yun Jiao: ………….
I’m not scared, thank you.
However, seeing the hopeful looks in her older brothers’ eyes, she softened and agreed.
Actually, she knew that her brothers were just not used to it.
Before, at the old house, Yun Jiao used to sleep in the same bed with her older brothers in turns.
Although she was often used as a human mosquito repellent and a pillow.
When they were suddenly separated and everyone had their own room, they were all excited at first, but after a few days, they missed their little sister.
Their sweet and soft little sister, who they could sleep with and not have nightmares, and who slept exceptionally well!
The thunder was particularly loud today, so Yun Xiao Wu and the others found an excuse for themselves and sneakily ran over.
Unexpectedly, as they neared the door, they saw their other brothers acting just as sneakily as they were.
Yun Xiao Wu and the others: ………….
And then came the scene before them.
With so many people sleeping together, the bed wasn’t big enough.
So they would sleep on the floor.
They spread the cooling mats on the ground to separate them from the floor, and Yun Xiao Wu and Yun Xiao Liu went to their rooms to get their bedding. They laid two blankets on the bottom, then a group of children burrowed into the covers, with Yun Jiao in the middle.
They weren’t in a hurry to sleep; with so many people, it was natural to chat and play.
Everyone chattered about things that interested them, and Yun Jiao discussed with them.
However, soon, as she listened, she started to feel sleepy.
“The typhoon is a bit strong today. I wonder if it will affect our going to the market tomorrow.”
“Jiaojiao, do you want anything? We can buy it for you.”
Yun Jiao lay in the warm covers, her eyes half-closed in a daze. Hearing her brother’s question, she answered vaguely.
“Instant noodles.”
Yes, instant noodles are delicious.
Yun Jiao, who hadn’t eaten instant noodles in a long time, smacked her lips, and sleepiness overtook her as she drifted off.
Yun Xiao Liu: “Instant noodles, I want some too.”
Yun Xiao Ba: “I want marbles too. I only have three marbles left.”
Yun Xiao Jiu: “Jiaojiao is asleep, don’t talk anymore.”
Yun Xiao Wu saw that it was true; the little girl was very sleepy.
“Sleep, sleep.”
Sleeping together like this, it was incredibly warm.
The weather was turning colder, and it was clearly approaching winter.
The next day, Yun Jiao woke up before her older brothers.
Her little face, wrinkled, rolled around in the covers, pushing away her Fifth Brother, who was sprawled out.
His hand was on her.
No wonder she had nightmares about being entangled by a giant octopus.
Pushing him away, she sat up and yawned.
Yun Jiao looked at her brothers sleeping in various postures, and her little hands patted each of them.
“Wake up, wake up, it’s time to get up.”
The vengeful little Yun Jiao acted as an alarm clock.
“Fifth Brother, hurry up, Sixth Brother…”
Great effort produces miracles; Yun Jiao yanked their covers off.
Hee hee… you dared to disturb my sleep last night.
“Jiaojiao, why are you up so early? You can sleep a bit longer.”
Yun Xiao Wu and the others didn’t want to get up.
Ever since they started school, they had loved to sleep in.
Yun Jiao put her hands on her hips, “No, you have to get up.”
Under her pestering, her older brothers reluctantly got up.
But they all willingly put on clothes and combed Yun Jiao’s hair for her.
Yun Jiao covered her not-so-good-looking hairstyle, rejected the care of her clumsy older brothers, and went to find their mother.
Shen Yunlian skillfully styled her daughter’s hair into a beautiful braid.
“Wear more clothes, it’s cold today.”
Saying this, she found her a light sweater with a little sunflower on it to wear.
“Did your older brothers sleep in your room last night?”
Yun Jiao nodded and took out small shrimp to feed Turtle Xiao Er.
“My brothers said they were afraid I’d be scared of the thunder, but I’m not afraid.”
Shen Yunlian smiled, “Yes, you weren’t scared. It was clearly your brothers who were scared.”
Yun Jiao nodded in agreement, exactly.
Yun Xiao Wu and the others quickly put on their new clothes and came over.
“Mom, when are we going to the market?”
“Mom, hurry, or the village tractor will leave.”
Shen Yunlian: “Go ask your father.”
The boys ran off to bother their father again.
After a period of chaos, a beautifully dressed Yun Jiao was held by her father, followed by a group of boys, heading to the village entrance to gather.
At seven o’clock, everyone in the village who was going to the market that day had gathered there.
They weren’t late; Yun Linhai sat down and immediately placed his daughter on his lap.
Those already on the tractor were chattering about the Yun Dafu family’s affairs.
That’s right, Yun Dafu’s family’s issues hadn’t been settled yet.
Besides his sister-in-law’s family, the other two families whose children were caught and imprisoned shamelessly came to beg for help, engaging in moral kidnapping.
But they still wouldn’t return the money.
Yun Dafu’s family had to argue and fight with those people at regular intervals.
“There was an incident yesterday, Yun Dafu’s son directly called the police. The public security comrades directly stated that signing a letter of understanding would be useless; their son was destined to serve a few years in prison.”
“This relative, they’ve completely ruined the relationship, haven’t they?”
“What kind of relative is that? If my family had relatives like that who brought outsiders to steal money from home and even beat people, I’d kick them out.”
Whoever wants this troublesome relative can have them.
The sound of the tractor starting was very loud, and people on the vehicle had to shout to be heard clearly.
Yun Jiao also found the tractor’s noise too loud, so she buried her head in her father’s arms.
Yun Linhai covered her ears with his dry, calloused hand.
He wondered if they should buy a bicycle; it would be more convenient for going to the market and traveling in the future.
Yun Jiao was also thinking about buying a bicycle.
Father and Uncle’s money had to be saved for buying a boat, but her own money could be used to buy a bicycle.
Hmm… or, maybe next time she could specifically search the seabed for shellfish that produce pearls, or catch another tuna?
While Yun Jiao was daydreaming about earning money to buy a bicycle, the village tractor arrived in the county town.
It was market day, and the county was especially lively today.
