Chapter 252: Epilogue
The call ended.
Jiang Ning’s expression turned grave.
Because no matter how she thought about it, Sui Youran couldn’t possibly have killed Huo Chengxuan.
But Huo Chengxuan died so abruptly…
Xie Jingyan made another call.
Soon, a fresh video appeared on his mobile phone.
The footage showed Sui Youran appearing at that hotel at eight-thirty in the evening.
Jiang Ning looked at the hotel’s decor and exclaimed, “Isn’t this the one we stayed at last night?”
Xie Jingyan nodded, pursed his thin lips, and said gravely, “It’s this international hotel. Last night, I ran into him in the dining hall on the second floor. Su Wanyuan was with him.”
His dark eyes turned as he said word by word, “I just don’t know if Huo Chengxuan’s death has anything to do with Su Wanyuan, or what role she played in it.”
Jiang Ning kept watching the video. Sui Youran appeared at eight-thirty and didn’t leave until nearly ten.
She left in a hurry, as if afraid of something.
On closer inspection, there were bloodstains on her clothes.
It was also around then that she disappeared without a trace.
Jiang Ning began speculating, “The person who killed him was very likely Sui Youran. But from this surveillance footage, if she really intended to kill him, she wouldn’t have exposed herself on camera, let alone have her full face captured. Maybe Sui Youran didn’t want to kill Huo Chengxuan, and something happened afterward that made her emotional and led her to kill him.”
Later, hotel staff discovered Huo Chengxuan dead in the room at ten in the morning.
Blood had flowed all over the floor. When Huo Chengxuan died, his eyes bulged, and he died with eyes wide open.
This was completely beyond their expectations.
They had planned to proceed slowly, but this incident happened unexpectedly.
“Huo Yu absolutely won’t sit still. He’ll turn the place upside down to find Sui Youran.”
And the one with the closest relationship to Sui Youran was Wei Jin.
Jiang Ning took out her mobile phone and sent a message to Wei Jin.
But it was like throwing a stone into the sea—no response.
“Wei Jin has disappeared too.”
A special message came through on his mobile phone.
It was a message from Yuan Zhi: [We’ve searched all of Wolong Mountain, and there are no places to hide people. Did Wei Jin deceive you?]
Jiang Ning thought of Wei Jin’s seriousness yesterday, and her heart began to waver.
In the end, she firmly replied: [All the missing people are on Wolong Mountain. There must be some place we haven’t discovered.]
At the other end, Yuan Zhi saw how much Jiang Ning trusted Wei Jin, and he felt somewhat helpless.
Because all the police undercover agents had died after getting close to him, how could he not hate Wei Jin? Of course he was hostile toward him and didn’t trust him at all.
But since Jiang Ning trusted him, Yuan Zhi could only choose to believe Jiang Ning’s intuition.
He looked at the hundred or so people behind him and waved toward the inside: “Keep searching. They must all be in here.”
Inside the small apartment.
Xie Jingyan called Assistant Wu to take Yuan Yuan away again.
He had wanted to rest for a day, but with this incident, Xie Jingyan had to take action.
“I need to find Su Wanyuan. She definitely knows something. Be as careful as you can. The Capital City hasn’t been peaceful lately.”
After giving instructions, Xie Jingyan left.
Jiang Ning ate lunch, tidied up briefly, and then went out.
Sui Youran had disappeared.
Wei Jin had disappeared too.
Even Su Wanyuan had vanished like she’d evaporated from the human world.
Were the three of them together?
No…
Since Xie Jingyan had seen Huo Chengxuan with Su Wanyuan yesterday.
That meant all three of them were likely present last night!
But it was Sui Youran who killed him.
As an eyewitness, Su Wanyuan was key.
Jiang Ning hurriedly took out her mobile phone to call Xie Jingyan. She wanted to go find Su Wanyuan with him.
Then from behind came Yuan Yuan’s hoarse crying: “Auntie! Waaah! Auntie!!!”
Jiang Ning turned back quickly. Yuan Yuan had been abducted by a group of people into a van. Assistant Wu, who was supposed to take Yuan Yuan back to the villa, was nowhere to be seen.
Jiang Ning ran toward Yuan Yuan’s direction when a large hand grabbed her neck from behind, and a cloth covered her nose.
Jiang Ning didn’t even have time to struggle.
Her whole body went limp, and her consciousness sank into darkness…
…
Su Wanyuan’s whereabouts were easy to track.
At least relatively easy for Xie Jingyan.
He hadn’t even sent people to investigate yet.
Shen Jinhe’s message arrived on his mobile phone first.
Shen Jinhe: [Come to this location. Su Wanyuan is here!]
Shen Jinhe: [Location]
Xie Jingyan furrowed his brows, turned the steering wheel, and headed in that direction.
Twenty minutes later.
He arrived.
This area was in the suburbs of the Capital City, very remote.
It was sparsely populated, an undeveloped urban area, and most importantly, there was a mental hospital here.
Normal people wouldn’t think of coming here.
Xie Jingyan got out of the car.
Shen Jinhe was standing by the roadside waiting for him. When she saw him arrive, she hurried over, her expression grave: “Go see her… She’s gone crazy…”
Xie Jingyan didn’t understand what she meant at first.
Until he saw Su Wanyuan. Her hair was disheveled, she was crying and laughing as she knelt on the ground kowtowing to a man in a patient’s gown not far away. Only then did Xie Jingyan truly understand.
Su Wanyuan had really gone crazy.
The man not far away had soft black hair sticking to the side of his face. Because he hadn’t been in the sun for years, he was very pale.
Jiang Yan was also watching from not far away.
He pursed his lips slightly, his gaze fixed on the man.
He was holding a tattered doll in his arms, with a brooch in the middle that said “Ning Ning.”
Xie Jingyan recognized it at a glance.
This man was Gu Lanli.
Ten years ago, after hearing the news of Jiang Ning’s death, he went crazy.
At first, the Gu Family put up with him, but later they were busy with business and taking care of their sick son, which exhausted them.
Later, the whole family came to the Capital City, and Father Gu arranged for Gu Lanli to be put in this mental hospital. They only gave money and occasionally visited when they had time.
But in recent years, the visits became fewer.
Because Father Gu later had another son.
He was only six this year.
Having a son in old age made him completely forget about Gu Lanli’s existence.
Gu Lanli’s face was expressionless. He quietly watched the yellow leaves shaking precariously above his head in the wind. His eyes didn’t fall on Su Wanyuan, as if her presence wasn’t worth his extra attention.
“A-Li, A-Li, I’ve avenged you. Huo Chengxuan killed Jiang Ning, so I made him pay with his life. Don’t be afraid. Get better, A-Li.”
Su Wanyuan knelt at Gu Lanli’s feet.
She tightly clutched the corner of his clothes.
Gu Lanli, disturbed, furrowed his handsome features in annoyance. He looked down at Su Wanyuan, disgust in his eyes: “Who are you? Don’t touch me. My Ning Ning hates other girls getting close to me. Stay away from me.”
Su Wanyuan stared blankly at Gu Lanli’s face.
That doll in his hands had accompanied him for ten years. No one was allowed to touch it.
Once, those eyes had overflowed with love for her.
It was she who hadn’t cherished it.
It was she who lied.
It was she who was wrong.
Su Wanyuan laughed and then cried.
They were all so pitiful, all slaves to love, delighting in it.
