Chapter 2: Ghost Characters
“Rustle.”
The harsh writing sound became increasingly clear in everyone’s ears, and crisp footsteps echoed from the corridor.
Because the front door wasn’t fully closed, plus the homeroom teacher’s earlier fall, now it only needed a gentle push to open.
Suddenly, the female classmate at the front door who had been speaking abruptly stood up and screamed loudly:
“The doorway… the doorway, the sound is right at the doorway!”
Everyone in the classroom focused their gazes on the front door. Through the gap, they could only see the endless darkness in the corridor. Not only people’s gazes, but even the light from the lights was completely devoured by the darkness.
Although they didn’t know what exactly was happening at the doorway, everyone could feel that some “thing” was seeping in from the gap in the front door!
“Quick, look! Look at the door! There’s something on the door!”
The girl who had already stood up pointed at the front door with her finger, her face full of fear. She kept retreating toward the back rows as she spoke.
Jiang Shan looked in the direction the girl was pointing,
The front door was covered in blood-red scarlet text. The originally brand-new wooden door began to rot, as if it had been decaying for a long time. The twisted and crooked blood-colored characters made it extremely weird. Most terrifying of all, the blood-red characters were spreading along the wall and floor toward the entire classroom!
“Creak.”
The door suddenly opened!
The darkness that devoured everything in the corridor instantly swept through the entire classroom from the front door!
The faint light in the classroom, weak as a dying candle, suddenly went out, and the last trace of dim light in everyone’s eyes disappeared.
Fear and screams filled the entire classroom. Many people were so scared their legs went soft, unable to speak, and the darkness plunged everyone in the classroom into panic.
“Rustle… rustle”
The harsh sound kept ringing in the classroom, its frequency becoming faster and faster, the sound growing more terrifying.
Every stroke made Jiang Shan’s mind tense even more. He noticed that the screams and calls for help in the classroom were gradually fading away.
Jiang Shan’s scalp went numb as he stood up. He instinctively reached into his desk to get his mobile phone for light.
When the light came on, only then did Jiang Shan notice that the blood-red weird ghost characters had already spread over more than half of the classroom’s walls and ceiling, eroding toward the entire classroom as if alive!
At this moment, Jiang Shan’s heart was pounding wildly, and his hand was shaking so much he could barely hold the mobile phone.
“Why aren’t they moving?”
Through the faint light, he discovered that half the people in the class were standing rigidly in place, motionless, their pale faces revealing the weirdness of death.
Under the illumination of the mobile phone light, the remaining classmates saw everything clearly. A girl near the front was so scared she collapsed to the ground, her hands trembling as she pointed at the rigid classmate in front of her, her voice trembling with sobs as she said:
“What’s wrong with him…”
“Rustle.”
The weird sound rang out again. The female classmate who was speaking suddenly froze in place, her face turning ashen, her throat trembling, her mouth wide open but unable to make a sound.
In an instant, in Jiang Shan’s view, the female classmate slumped in her seat had an extremely pale face, devoid of any blood color. Her hollow gaze held no emotion, and her rigid posture made her look exactly like a corpse!
“Is it really a ghost!?”
Jiang Shan’s hands and feet turned ice-cold, his whole body trembling. He forced himself to calm down, and suddenly remembered what that strange man had said:
Perceive the ghost’s pattern,
Pattern?
What pattern does the ghost have?
“Could it be that weird, terrifying writing sound?”
“We all heard it, so why did only the people in front die?”
The floor!
Looking at the ghost characters still crazily spreading on the floor and wall.
Realizing something, Jiang Shan’s gaze sharpened, and he suddenly shouted:
“Run! Run out of the classroom, don’t touch that thing no matter what!”
Jiang Shan’s voice woke up the remaining survivors. The terrified crowd had long forgotten to think and rushed toward the back door upon hearing his words.
Jiang Shan also ran out of the classroom with the crowd. As he fled toward the stairs, he looked back at the corridor and saw a familiar figure.
Li Nan!
He saw him holding pens in both hands, continuously writing something on his own body.
Meeting Jiang Shan’s gaze, he was horrified. He didn’t dare look back again and ran downstairs with the crowd regardless.
“Rustle.”
The terrifying sound echoed from deep in the corridor, resounding through the school.
“It’s coming again.”
He discovered that this time no one else stiffened and died. It seemed his guess was correct:
Hearing the sound wasn’t the trigger for death,
Touching it was!
The girl in the classroom earlier had suddenly stiffened because she touched the weird characters on the floor!
Because that weird rustling sound didn’t disappear; instead, it grew even harsher, as if the source was right by his ear!
“Jiang Shan! Quick, look! Quick, look!”
His desk mate Chen Yue patted Jiang Shan, her face full of fear as she said.
Jiang Shan glanced back and saw that the ghost characters had actually appeared on the wall at the stairwell entrance, spreading toward the crowd like countless poisonous snakes!
Like Jiang Shan, the crowd saw the scarlet ghost characters appearing beside them again. The joy of surviving the disaster instantly vanished, and the fear in their hearts reached its peak at this moment!
“Ah! Aaaah, there’s a ghost!”
“I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die!”
First floor! Second floor!
Just two more floors to the first floor!
The dawn of hope seemed right in front of the crowd, but suddenly, a female classmate in the crowd was bumped by the panicked masses, missed her step, and fell hard onto the stairs.
Chaos and madness filled the crowd with only one thought:
Survive!
Who would care about the classmate underfoot? Even if they saw, who would lend a hand in such a situation?
Because he had glanced at Li Nan earlier, Jiang Shan was running at the back of the crowd. Seeing the female classmate on the stairs, he frowned tightly.
Because Jiang Shan discovered that the female classmate was already losing consciousness from the violent collisions and trampling.
Looking closely,
The girl’s calf was twisted out of shape, and her knee, severely dislocated, was even starting to ooze blood outward.
Jiang Shan didn’t hesitate at all and directly went around her body to run downstairs.
But just as he passed by the female classmate, Jiang Shan felt his leg grabbed by someone. The unexpected change made him stumble, nearly falling onto the stairs.
It was that girl!
“Don’t go, save… me, don’t go, I beg you…”
The female classmate’s voice was choked with sobs, looking pitiful, but the strength in her hands kept increasing!
Seeing all this, Jiang Shan’s anger reached its peak.
“Get off! Let go of me!”
He turned and kicked fiercely at the female classmate’s face.
No hesitation,
No pity.
Aiming at the female classmate’s eye socket, Jiang Shan continuously kicked her.
“Ah!”
Although the girl released her grip in pain, at this moment Jiang Shan discovered the ghost characters had spread to his feet.
“Damn, am I going to die?” At this moment, only one thought filled Jiang Shan’s mind.
The instant he touched the “ghost characters,” he felt his lower body lose sensation. Numbness and the cold stiffness were spreading step by step toward his head with time, an extreme chaos crashing wildly in his brain.
At this moment, he felt:
His head was about to explode!
If he could look inside, Jiang Shan would now see that his brain, every blood vessel, even his eyeballs were covered in blood-red ghost characters.
Finally, perhaps it was time to accept his fate.
